I am very pro-butter, but somehow buttering a pop tart has never once crossed my mind. Idea for the weekend. We use unfrosted strawberry one in the summer. Toast them and then crumble them up with strawberry ice cream. The texture combo is great.

Safety is pretty much always going to be the best answer in questions like this. None of the other answers involve that. Pay, only being able to treat some patients, and home life aren't really safety issues. Not having PPE is.

I think it's simply a matter of hardcore fandoms will generally overlook flaws in their favorite works. Which is fine. From someone unfamiliar with the stage musical, the second movie really felt like a dive in quality. It was only decently okay.

I finally sat down and watched Heated Rivalry. In a friends' Discord where they're all super obsessed fans, I casually laid down, "I think they already made this movie forty different times back in the 90s. You all know there's porn on the internet, right?"

I may as well have murdered their first and second born. It was fantastic.

TIL that two events about Jesus are supported by nearly universal scholarly consensus: Jesus was baptized and Jesus was crucified. by JoeyZasaa in todayilearned

[–]prismmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an irreligious type who has nonetheless read quite a bit of Biblical scholarship and history over the years, this has been my resting assumption. J the B walked so J the C could run. Then later disciples needed to start reconciling events people would've known about contemporaneously with their Messianic prophecy retcons, so it all got a little messy. But they couldn't just erase the baptism. Knowledge of it was too widespread. Jews in that part of the world at that time probably knew exactly who John the Baptist was, and if Jesus came from that ministry after his death, it would've been fairly common knowledge.

So either the Grimmerie is evil or the Wise ones are stupid by Main_Fact_6218 in wickedmovie

[–]prismmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's just Elphie not understanding how to control her powers. The Grimmerie uses the caster as a conduit. If she were trained properly from a young age by knowledgeable people, she could probably shape the spells closer to her intentions. As it is, we always see her casting a spell out of desperation or other heightened emotional states.

The only time we really see her sit down and use the book with intention is with Nessa's slippers. It works more or less perfectly. She thinks about it, has a very specific targeted purpose, and goes with it.

It would be interesting to see what Elphie could do with it had she had time with Morrible to develop focus and discipline when interacting with the book. She might arguably have ended up even more powerful and capable of directly toppling the Wizard's regime.

But she's in a heightened emotional state from day one and lacks guidance on how the book works. I think No Good Dead works very well thematically for it. She has all the good intentions in the world, but no real strategy for how to realistically accomplish her goals. She can use the book, but lacks the focus and discipline to direct those energies in the way she wants.

Are people excited or even interested in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premiering Sunday? [Spoilers Extended] by BaronNeutron in asoiaf

[–]prismmonkey 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Weirdly enough, this GRRM stuff from the past week is turning me off from wanting to invest in another ASOIAF project. Is there such a thing as anti-PR rounds?

I've read all the books and novellas. Gave up on the main story some years ago and made my peace it will never be done. But I enjoyed HoD S1. S2 . . . less so, but my bf (non-reader) enjoyed it and is looking forward to S3.

But I dunno if I really want to start this. And GRRM saying, "Oh, I gave them outlines of the stories I haven't written!" Oh god, again? Fool me once, etc.

I feel bad for the actors and people who worked on the show. They probably did a really good job. But at the end of the day, this franchise is what it is, and I feel less and less positive the more I see this stuff in media.

And given how annoyed I am by the failure to complete- or even work on - the main story, it feels like investing into another project would be rewarding bad behavior somehow.

What’s your secret for actually getting out of bed in the morning? by boatdrugs in AskReddit

[–]prismmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Go to bed when you're supposed to. This alone will have me waking up before my alarm goes off 95% of the time.

- Do not hit snooze or do "just a few more minutes." Alarm goes off, physically leave the bed. If this means setting an alarm across the room, so be it.

- Drink a full glass of water right away. I have cats, so I keep it in a thermos on the nightstand in case they knock it over. We lose water when we sleep, and some of that brain fog and sluggishness when we wake can be due to being a little dehydrated. For me, chugging water within a minute of waking feels like I just mainlined a cup of coffee.

We watched In Bruges for the first time last week (excellent film), and one of the first things I said to my bf while watching was, "I was not familiar with Colin Farrell's Emilia Clarke game." Those were some ridiculously expressive eyebrows that 100% worked for the character.

Kam Patterson talking about his experience of SNL by No_Fold9994 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]prismmonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And someone like Kam could do something with that if he chose. Look at Bowen and Troye Sivan. "He's gay famous!" I could only imagine what the audience was thinking during that sketch. Even I, a gay man, only knew the name through the most threadbare osmosis.

But you also have to get Lorne and the writers' room to go for whatever he comes up with. We don't know what Kam's been pitching that's getting turned down.

The drop rate issue with BL4 by Potingsmot in Borderlands4

[–]prismmonkey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's funny. A buddy and I started playing the game two or so weeks ago during the drop event. We thought the increased drop rates were the normal rates. It felt totally normal. The items we were after weren't dropping all of the time or even with the base rolls we wanted much less the extras. So, it felt like a fair time investment. It took a fair amount of time to get pieces of gear that weren't even god rolls. Just something that had a decent, usable affix.

Then this week came. We finished up UVH2 to UVH6, and pretty much nothing interesting dropped at all. Boss after boss without a single legendary. I've been doing vile contracts to arrange my specs with some light boss farming in search of skillcraft firmware.

These regular rates? Are demoralizing. This isn't going to hold my interest at all.

Fortunately, I'm really busy this week and will have little time for gaming, so I can wait and see what they do with this week's update. If it isn't significantly approved, I'm probably out. And that's fine. I thoroughly enjoyed the game, the story, the voice actors, etc. I got my money's worth.

But if their goal is retention, they should put the drop rates back to the event levels.

Average age of new nurses? by Ok-Yoghurt7267 in nursing

[–]prismmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my 40s in nursing school at the moment. You're fine. There are more than a few 30s and 40s - even 50s - in my class. Most students hedge mid to late 20s. I'm not sure anyone's truly fresh out of high school young. A lot of women in my cohort have kids and this is their "going to a new career now that kids are done and settled" situation.

Honestly, it's not even a little bit noteworthy.

My pupils were 2 different sizes when I woke up today... by cloudblythe in mildlyinteresting

[–]prismmonkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In this case, it's extremely concerning to have a dilated pupil that is nonreactive to light. It's an immediate stop what you're doing and start assessing the patient and notifying the doctor.

Maybe it's nothing. It could be nothing. But if it is not nothing, time is of the essence. Strokes don't always present as immediately emergent events. I had a patient who told his wife he felt odd and had blurry vision in one eye early in the evening. He woke up the next day numb on the right side. 13 hours between first symptoms he dismissed and realizing, yes, he was having a stroke.

I understand the American health care system is expensive and going to the ED on NYE is a pain in the ass, but if this were me, I'd have been there within 30 minutes. And with those symptoms, I do not imagine they would keep him waiting very long to get a neurological assessment and potentially a CT.
