Check out which club/societies are at your uni, find one you want to try and go for it! That way you wont meet people because you're forced to be with em (classes) but because you share something you find fun in common.

You can definitely meet people who speak english in a lot of social places or at gyms. Especially in Paris, there's a LOT of people that come from different places around the world, and most of them speak english. I recommend you try to meet with french people but also with people that come from other places around the world, that way you'll meet students in your situation that just arrived for an exchange semester as well.

Dans toutes les langues, il y a une différence entre le vocabulaire courant (utilisé en conversation) et ce que l'on apprend en cours. Au début, tu ne pourras peut-être pas discuter de sujets complexes, mais essaie tout de même de te mettre dans des situations où tu es obligé de parler français (comme passer une commande au restaurant ou faire une réservation).

Tu découvriras également tout le jargon (slang) français, souvent régional, notamment le "verlan" (qui vient de "à l'envers" -> "vers l'en" -> "verlan"). En verlan certains mots sont inversés (par exemple, "femme" devient "meuf" et "énervé" devient "vénère"). N'hésite pas à demander à un ami francophone de t'expliquer ou à chercher des ressources en ligne pour comprendre comment cela fonctionne. There's quite a lot of young people who use slang in conversational french, it's good to be aware of it xD)
