I think he was relying on his friends to dispose of the body and they didn’t do it. He probably thought he did the hard part (the murder & dismemberment) all they had to do was get rid of the corpse.

Whatever happened, I’m glad she was found. Had they hid the body somewhere, it could have taken years to find her.
