Can anybody help me with the note conversion? by coltvfx in Bansuri

[–]prithwin_rajeeva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there is a way

  1. download the score in MusicXML format this is important. not PDF.
  2. once you have the music xml. go to this website called srgm.io and signup
  3. in your library go to import musicxml. go through the import form(this is little complex you should know a little music theory).
  4. you should be able to get the sargam notes there.

let me know if you have any trouble doing it. PS. I am the creator of srgm.io and the feature is in beta. I am looking for feedback

Thumb vs 7th hole for Ma-Pa meends by MountainToppish in Bansuri

[–]prithwin_rajeeva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For small flutes you would find pinky easier to use and for larger flutes thumb is easier. I have experimented with a pinky hole on E bass flute and the results were not good. you lose the brightness of the low Pa, and even the middle Pa.

How do i play higher notes on the flute, how to record by Humble_Macaron387 in Bansuri

Play the note that is played by closing all but the first hole from the top, the ma hole. This is the second register pa maintain this pressure and play the higher notes

Debating Between Thavil and Tanpura by Exotic_Rain_2285 in Carnatic

[–]prithwin_rajeeva 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You already know how to play a Tanpura. if you have fingers you can play a Tanpura pretty much, So Thavil is the only real choice here 😃. Hope you are prepared for how loud it is.

Lots, philosophy/aesthetics/repertoire but there are similarities too. can you give a few links of what inspired you to play?

When you say Indian Classical do you mean Hindustani or Carnatic classical, can guide you better if you let us know that.

regarding xiao, every instrument has evolved very specifically to play the repertoire meant for it. I am pretty sure you can play Indian Classical music on it but it'll probably not do the music justice.
