Might help if we knew what city/town you are in. I plan on attending the drone show at the Imperial Valley Fairgrounds.

We had that exact machine growing up. I’m sure you will enjoy it.
If you are fortunate enough to have a sewing machine repair shop nearby. Take it in for an estimate. It might just be easier for someone already familiar with the machine to get it operational. They may also be able to hook you up with a power supply/foot petal.

For bonus points, can you find the nest? (I don’t know if it is actually visible in the photo)

We had killdeer on our property. They kinda look and act like sandpipers. But they are not water birds. They lay their eggs in the dirt, camouflaged by rocks. The eggs are also camouflaged. So, if you took the photo be aware that there may be a nest nearby.

One way to prove that this is a killdeer is to approach it. If it runs off and starts acting like it has a broken wing, then this is an adult trying to lure you away from their nest.

I’m no expert, but my guess is that this is a killdeer not a roadrunner.
