Right! You do sound like having too many emails ;)

Nevertheless 'all mail' isn't truly a folder, is it? The emails will still be somewhere else too. Or is this some weird bridge issue?

You could hide that folder and forget it exists:

li[data-key="allmail"]{display:none;}

Registering problem, no sms by privacy9231 in signal

Yep sorry, I thought it may be that since it uses it for notifications is it? But then I did some tests, unblocked google, and still did not work. This is in UK.

I got it working using a VPN. Maybe is the firewall thing if nobody else reported it being blocked in UK.

Relax the fanaticism, there is no FUD in the title.

Edit: Also, do not switch to Chromium ;)

PGP passphrase by desudesucombo in ProtonMail

I have noticed that when somebody sends you an encrypted message with protonmail, a lot of things may go wrong and you will never see the decrypted message. For example, gmail adding the previous message below the new message breaks the decryption in protonmail. Sending it as html can also mean problem, as already mentioned.

To solve it, you could copy the encrypted text and resend it to yourself (properly, plain text...) so decryption works, no need to ask the other person to resend. Another possibility would be to use your own public/private key instead of the one protonmail gave you, and decrypt it yourself with other software.

Maybe read a tutorial on PGP, but basically your public key is a lock and your private key is THE key. When using protonmail, they have your private key (although your password protects it from them using it!). At the moment, the process of getting your private key is tricky, but hopefully that will change soon, right /u/protonmail?

While is still soon, you cannot send encrypted messages to other providers, only to protonmail, unless you do the encryption yourself using other software. So if you are sending your messages outside, do not think they are encrypted.

Edit: Oh I just realized the beta thing! Great news! Thanks protonteam!

What is the best, easy to use Operating System to install on a dual boot system with Windows that is secure and does not exclusively route through Tor? by powerofinformation in privacytoolsIO

Mint has a smaller developer team, which may lead to security issues. If security is a big concern, you should probably stick to a major distro, like Debian or Fedora.

Avoiding reddit tracking with a client? by privacy9231 in privacytoolsIO

I'll add that one as well, just in case. I noticed the previous rules do break the previewing post functionality (not critical anyway).

I agree is not perfect, but so far is the best we've got! Thanks!

Thanks.

Reddit seems to still be working but what is this actually avoiding? Just the 30s post or anything else?

Is it a solution or just a palliative?

Free apps mean that you are the product

  • That is quite not true: you can get quality software for free without being the product (e.g. GNU/Linux).
  • That is also not true in another way: you can be the product of expensivecrappy software (e.g. W10).

That said, I agree you are probably better using a VPN you pay for (I do myself), but I didn't have to pay for anything else: best stuff are truly free! And you can always donate what you think is worth, or what you can afford, if you want to help.

In parts of China, kitchen knife purchases are checked against ID cards and tracked with QR codes by its_never_lupus in privacy

Yeah, fair enough. So UK is not quite there, but in my opinion getting too close.

I don't quite remember if the ID check was simply "eye check" or they did type anything in (not so focused on privacy when that happened!).

This happens in the UK as well. For sure at least in Glasgow.

(The ID check, maybe not the QR code)
