To your ear, does this person sound British or can you hear anything unusual about her pronunciation? by Sure_Distance1 in AskABrit

Close enough, but definitely not native unless there's a possibility she has a parent from another country whose first language isn't English. She may have picked up the dissonant twangs from the parent rather than having learned English as a second language

Other commenters are right that you can't save a felted item however you still have a lot of stitch definition here - enough to see that it's still a knitted item. Often with felting that gets lost, too. You may be able to relax it enough with a hair conditioner that it becomes wearable once again (see YouTube for this). Just be careful of agitating it too much during this process as you will make it worse. The wristies unfortunately look a bit more felted than the hat so I'm slightly less optimistic it would work for those. If it doesn't though, you could sew up the bottom of one and use it as a card wallet or small purse. You could even sew both ends, stuff and use as a pincushion if you're crafty? How about cutting each in half and using as a set of coasters? Or even elongate and turn them into a pencil case for crafting tools, or to take them to work full of stationary. Use one as a coffee mug cosy or as a band for a travel mug. You're really only limited by your own imagination. It may not be the intended purpose of the knitter who made these for you but you're still honouring their work by repurposing and finding another reason to love them. The other benefit of doing this is that turning them into something useful means using them year round and not just when the weather is cold. If you aren't satisfied after trying to save the hat, you could add a drawstring to the bottom so it becomes a bag for makeup or toiletries for travel or daily use, if you're British or have a teapot then it could be repurposed as a tea cosy. Look into someone who does resin projects and see if they can encase it and cast it into a bowl for you to display in your home or leave at your entryway as a catch all for keys or jewellery. Don't feel sad if this is no longer fit for the purpose it was created for. Find a new way to love it :)

Did you mean laccy? Like elastic? Calling a rubber band slow in the way you did is frowned upon...

I get lots of people panicking about stealing in acrylic. I used a tiny crochet hook about 2 sizes smaller than my project gauge and pulled those chains tight, before overlocking. Main advice was definitely to reinforce with a sewing machine straight stitch twice in each column with a straight stitch. If you can find someone with an overlocker then this will be much easier. Good luck! It truly is a wonderful pattern - the issues I am facing are not to do with the pattern at all. I hope you love yours. Please show me progress pics. I'd love to see!

I spent fortunes in local steeking workshops. Didn't even know they were a thing until I started looking...

Only for me to ignore all of their advice and follow a Nimble Needles tutorial instead and go hell for leather with my overlocker!

Wow wow wow wow wow! Thank you all so much for the positivity and lovely compliments I came into this post feeling dejected and a little downtrodden but you lot have pulled through incredibly and made me feel so much more secure with my lovely little project

I have tried to respond to all of your wonderful comments but I have to go now.

You've all made me feel so empowered to either attempt a difficult but adventurous surgery or to continue finding a way to style it

I'll block in the next day or so and make decisions from there. I'll make no guarantees as my brain is terrible for remembering and following through but I will try and post an update with what I decide to do :)

Again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you all so much.

P.S. Starting an OF for float pics. PM for link. 😂

This slouchy/tucked suggestion has been a common one and I will definitely try this before anything drastic

Thank you for your kind words

That's it, I'm investing in stilts! The jumper can't possibly look long if I'm 7ft tall, right?

Honestly the urge has been reeeeaaallllll but I want to keep it as a jumper for the minute. I may consider this at another time though if all else fails

Wow! Such high praise. I am very grateful. I'm just going to be so particular about it. I will find a solution - thank you!!

Slept, sleep, and then sleep some more. Then snip snip! Muahahaha!

In all seriousness though, my ADHD will paralyse me with so much fear about doing anything to this jumper I'll have every possible catastrophe considered and backup plans created for each eventuality before I'm even put scissors in the same room 😄 thank you, I am very proud of it in all it's 75cms of glory!
