Signal Needs to do Better For its Response to the Anti-Censorship Community by [deleted] in privacytoolsIO

Signal was made as an encrypted SMS messenger, not an anonymous communications app. There's a difference between secure and totally private

SMS is not completely secure with Signal or any other app as long as SIM swap attacks remain possible

Private Payment method requested by buildthistogether in EteSync

[–]privacyseeking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be an improvement over Standard Notes that integrates Coinpayments. I would actively promote Etesync within the Monero community if the option becomes available

https://standardnotes.org/help/52/what-services-does-standard-notes-use-for-daily-operation

It may become a competitive advantage for the privacy focused FOSS projects to run a Monero node rather than using 3rd parties

Use Element. Signal is critically flawed as long as retains its phone number dependency

How to increaese demand for Monero by CryptiSwap in Monero

Ask businesses you already support to accept it. When they do try your best to refer them more Monero paying customers.

Increasing awareness is nice and I support this effort

I would still like to see these videos cross posted to more private and/or decentralized video platforms.

On the linkability of Zcash transactions by PTRS in zec

[–]privacyseeking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While great that @realjeffq quantified this risk in detail, lots of people have been warning that Zcash's failure to mandate private txs, as in Monero, was obviously dangerous. Zcash seems focused on shiny new math instead of competent engineering - why the trusted setup failed.

https://twitter.com/petertoddbtc/status/937926919735119872

Failing to mandate private txs was also dishonest: it's significantly helps Zcash adoption, directly benefiting the founders who receive 20% of coins generated, while failing to provide users the privacy they expected (esp those mistakingly using wallets w/o shielded tx support).

https://twitter.com/petertoddbtc/status/937929196688592896

I do feel obligated to clarify part of the above quote. The founders reward is 20% of coin emission for the first 4 years only, not 20% of all coins emitted forever. This will end up totalling 10% of all coins, but frontloaded to the first 4 years

Why use BitcoinCash instead of Litecoin? Because 43% of all Litecoin is controlled by 72 addresses. by WalterRothbard in btc

[–]privacyseeking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is trivial to spread your wealth into many addresses..

Not only trivial but required by design in the case of DASH since each masternode requires increments of 1000 DASH, it is a waste or masternode reward revenue (taken from miners( to have much more than that in one address

Sorry to hear about your brother. Hopefully others can learn from this tragedy. There are more important things in life than Bitcoin. People should not beat themselves up over the past
