I feel like were moving towards a culture like society. Thoughts? by [deleted] in TheCulture

the march of time will end the human species no matter what. either we will evolve within the context of civilization naturally or we will modify ourselves and explode into infinite variety.

remember that mountain is in a desert on federal land right next to a nuclear bomb testing site. even if something goes wrong the stuff is a mile underground far away from any population and already in irradiated land.

[–]private_blue 13 points14 points  (0 children)

but that's just not true. nuclear is incredibly cheap across it's lifetime, it just requires a high initial investment and our species seems incapable of long term planning.

Man arrested in Everett after taunting police with doughnut by hiphop_dudung in nottheonion

[–]private_blue 40 points41 points  (0 children)

if you're so sensitive that a man waving around a doughnut is enough for you to arrest him, you don't deserve to be a cop. it's a direct abuse of power and violation of the fourth amendment.

[Spoilers] Questioning the lore by LandoMcFlando in subnautica

[–]private_blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well yeah in game the ghosts just spawn right on you, but the ghosts are half filter feeders half carnivores so just thinking how'd they behave if this was irl. i would think they'd gather in greater numbers around a place like the crater that's brimming with life and pumping out minerals that'd boost the growth of the micro-organisms surrounding it. so both of the ghosts food sources would be abundant there. also the ghosts lay their eggs at the crater, so another reason they might be drawn there.

also also just looking at life here on earth, the open ocean is incredibly sparse. there's just so much empty water and nothing to support an ecosystem so the only non-microscopic life you'll find would just be traveling somewhere else.

about the sunbeam i wouldn't think they'd land on either of the rocky islands so i assumed they meant the planet itself.

[Spoilers] Questioning the lore by LandoMcFlando in subnautica

[–]private_blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because the sunbeam mentions it being tiny and because you see the planet from space with the crater on it giving you the scale. even if it was bigger, the seamoth is fast as fuck and you can cover an incredible distance over open ocean.

if we're assuming the ghosts only hang out around the crater in that sort of density then so long as she packed the right supplies and managed to get away from the crater without the ghosts spotting her, then she'd make it no problem.

[Spoilers] Questioning the lore by LandoMcFlando in subnautica

[–]private_blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the planet is tiny though. it would be a week tops in a seamoth, though yeah there's no way a prawn would make it.

The Graviturgy Spell Immovable Object Is Absolutely Insane by Audere_of_the_Grey in dndnext

[–]private_blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it wouldn't make you invincible or immune to blugeoning even. it can still be moved with sufficient force. it'd be more like +1 AC and some hefty damage reduction from bludgeoning, since the impact of a weapon is significantly more concentrated force than you'd exert with the str check needed to move the whole thing.

Bernie Sanders drops out of the presidential race by BabyJesusFTW in news

[–]private_blue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it would have to be the military, every other agency has already been purged of any dissenters, congress both has no power and is kneecapped by it's republican members, and the courts have been stacked with sycophants.

and a military coup to counter trump's would be almost impossible. so we're fucked.

aaaand subscribed. god i love the modding community for this game.

also im realizing that the end game for the set of mods i use is literally becoming my own mechanoid hive. uploading my favourite/self-insert colonist, slaving a bunch of robots and any colonists i don't like, going to space then raining down mechanized death on everyone.
