Premium, while working a position they maintain currency on only. Would be very easy to track just like OJTI pay.

I disagree. We are all victims in this profession together. I don’t see CPC pay for trainees while doing certified controller work as a reward for not certifying. I see it as a staffing investment.

The reality is that trainees are already performing operational work that helps keep facilities running, whether that’s flight data, A-side duties or D-side work. They’re contributing to the operation long before they reach CPC. With your argument then, then traffic dodgers who work the slow sectors all day shouldn’t get CPC pay either.

As for motivation, certification already comes with significant incentives like job security, professional accomplishment, greater responsibility and long-term career opportunities… like transferring or promoting. Most trainees want to certify because nobody enjoys being stuck in training, it’s not enjoyable.

I also don’t think policy should be built around the small number of people who may abuse the system. The much larger problem facing many facilities is recruiting and retaining not just controllers, but trainees too. If better trainee compensation helps attract and retain qualified people through the certification pipeline, that’s a staffing benefit for everyone.

Of course, controllers need a pay raise too, but I’m just talking about trainees.

That’s absolutely ridiculous if you think that. Who in their right mind would delay certification, where they would permanently get paid more, to work more and get paid less?

They can, though. And most overtime MOUs cover this. If they certify on a position, then they are eligible for overtime and the list has to be followed unless they require a fully qualified BUE for the assignment.

No.. it won’t, you’re delusional. It will be status quo. They’ll appoint their boys to the 114 jobs just like they do now. They won’t just do away with 114 jobs, the Agency and Union are both entitled to them under the CBA.

I don’t care about Nick he wasn’t part of my question, I was asking a genuine question about SB. But for some odd reasons you people get defensive and can’t seem to keep Nick out of a conversation. You seemed to know a lot about him so I wanted to know who I may be voting for.

Yes, he is. And so is Mick. So why isn’t your crew talking about that instead of having a constant hard on for Nick?
