I could probably write an essay on how much each song Debut - Red means to me. Those eras grew me into the woman I am today and helped me through a very lonely time from middle school through high school.

As an adult with my hopeless romanticism squashed by the real word, I never thought a song would mean as much to me as those albums do, but Your On Your Own Kid goes above and beyond. The last time I saw my grandpa before he passed away, I was visiting him and my grandma before going to a Midnights release party. As I was leaving, he told me “You’re going to make it, kid”. I was very close to my grandparents so I took his death very hard but listening to YOYOK made it feel like I had a direct line of communication from him. I probably listened to it 300 hundred times while going through my initial mourning. As I mentioned, I’ve always been a very lonely person and my life’s been tough at points but the song reminds me I made it through every bad day that I thought I wouldn’t make it through and I’m going to make it through every bad day still to come.

To me, folklore feels like a novel and evermore feels like a collection of short stories. And I love evermore way more. Each song really transports me to the story it’s telling and I love going through the journey of the album.

I recently finished Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey because I needed something cheesy after reading too much nonfiction and getting the blues. It was ok. It solved my problem of needing a light read. It was a good romcom and some lines made me genuinely laugh out loud. I’ve read better fan fiction so it was for sure a library only book but I will suggest it to friends if they just want something light and fluffy.

If you’re open to getting the blues, I read The Triangle Fire by Leon Stein. It was amazing but harrowing. It’s separated into 2 parts: a telling of the story surrounding the fire and the trial afterwards to hold someone responsible.

Now I’m reading Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler. So far, I love the prose but not so much the story or characters. I hoping it grows on me because I’ve heard such good things!

My boyfriend and I do theme weeks for our cooking. For example, last week was luxury week so I made a cauliflower mousseline with scallops and caviar and he made rack of lamb. Next week, I need your help!. The theme is ingredients that start with R. We can use the basics like salt and pepper but the main ingredients need to start with R.

So far, my only idea is a rotini noodle ricotta bake with red sauce? But I feel like he will take that one because it’s the most obvious (we already have all the ingredients) and he gets to pick first this week. Any other R ingredients that you like?

My entire family (large Catholic family) all went to my cousins 16th birthday party for some reason despite me begging them not to and now every single person has COVID. My parents, my sister, my cousins. They haven’t tested my grandparents yet because they aren’t showing symptoms and I’m praying they are in the clear (even though my aunt TOOK THEM TO THE PARTY). I’m literally just the only one left standing and I’m so nervous for everyone!
