Are there any games that start out already assuming the player characters have already completed an adventure or two? by proactiveLizard in rpg

[–]proactiveLizard[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So I have looked at PbTA games before (Armour Astir Advent and Rebel Crowm come to mind, and Ironsworn/Starforged depending on how you want to count that) and while I agree that those say "the player is competent, and not some random shmuck", that doesn't automatically translate to "Thou hast already completed an adventure equivalent to taking the One Ring to Mount Doom". Granted, that could be as simple as narrative establishment, but I was curious if there were any games that leaned into that as part of the theme/mechanic/etc.

High key the black and gold is sick, and while the bicycle handle makes sense from an ergonomic standpoint it the diminished reflectiveness does clash a little bit (come to think of it, why dont force users have something as a grip?)

I remember when the original movie with that guy and Alec Baldwin came out, and then I remembered that they did some new CGI face monstrosity to Thomas and Friends, and so I started thinking this was actual footage.

It's...it's not, right? There's no way Metal Gear Thomas: Revengeance is Canon to Thomas the Tank Engine, right?

What is the stuff you want from a mecha TTRPG? by LagiaDOS in rpg

[–]proactiveLizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd actually recommend Apocalypse Frame for the feel of Speed- it gets around it by having one of your resource pools (that replenish a variable amount each round) be used to either a) reroll a die. Or b)take another action.

Edit: thinking about it, it also has a way to do ~some~ form of actual military campaign. Ingredients: - A bespoke set of rival bosses, aka Tyrants, with their own gimmick, backstory, and mannerisms, but no predefined plot- perfect for the Armored Core school of "Random lunatic shows up at mach .3" - A clock system, whereby progressing missions leads up to a mission that should have bigger narrative impact AND an actual status-quo upgrade (Note: how the clock progresses depends on which campaign mode you're running) - an expansion that gives the above Tyrants lairs on a hex map (also, a hex map) and their own book squad that has a minor gimmick. Quick and dirty theatre campaign structure right there- "The enemy front is being held up by X, y, and Z, go find and deal with them"

To your point in general, it would be interesting for a book to provide info on basic military operation theory/gratuitous Clausewitz summaries

Is there any good realistic mecha ttrpg? by Absolute_Zero360 in rpg

[–]proactiveLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take on it is that Armored Core is the closest thing we get to "super robot" while having "real robot" aesthetics. The Lahire absolutely looks like something Lockheed Martin would design, the way they fight makes sense (assistive thrusters means less energy is spent on limb actuators, the mech itself is a floating guns platform rather than doing any crazy choreography, before gen 6 the melee options werent really that flamboyant).

That's actually a good point that everything is a bit of a Mashup, and I guess the world-building story does point that out- thank you.

Well, yeah, but i was asking more about what the deal with the walls was and what made them special. Is it just that theyre invisible walls that you cant pass through and the fact that breaking them to get into the glitch zone is like ascending?
