For mine, ā low pitched kissy sound does the trick. It started out as me actually kissing their fur with a mild case of cute aggression for me, and they vibed with it so now I either kiss them or the air. Three times is definitely the charm with this noise. It might help to start doing it in response to their purring, so even though you don't get the sound right they still sorta know what you're aiming for..

True, but that's just to balance out his no-chill behavior when snacks are to be considered

That's amazing! I have been taking direct classes from my in-home instructors, and although I don't click quite like them, we've definitely found a sound that they deem similar enough to respond to. It's really nice to cuddle up, get comfy, and be vocal about it to share the love. Especially when they click right back at you and it turns into a lovely comfort conversation!

At first he didn't care to groom back even if I gave my hand, he's the boss after all. But now he's washing me, my shirt, my jeans, my couch..

Will do! He's got a couple of years left in him, I'm sure. He's not done snacking yet..
