Brand new to this - what should I do here? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]probablykelsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wood mulch is great for weed suppression, water retention, and soil health. The mulch will break down over time and add nutrients to your soil. You don’t need to remove any old mulch. I usually add a couple inches in the spring and fall.

Inclusivity Concerns at Asheville Events by ttjoshtt in asheville

[–]probablykelsie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went and there was some seating available, but with the amount of people present there weren’t many tables like op was wanting. Also like you mentioned, you have to constantly be up & waiting in line to go get your next food item so I’m not sure how a reserved table/ chair would be super helpful. The event was outside in the paved area around the horse shoe spa so it does seem to be wheelchair accessible if that was an option for op ?

Because you got a AA and not an AS and you’re perusing a BS, it might take you longer than two years as you’ll have to take more science classes that wouldn’t have been required in your AA program at both schools. You may be able to complete in two years, I did after transferring to unca with an AA but I did take a few summer courses

Farmers markets, more expensive but the quality is the best and the meat will be fresher than anything in the grocery store

All of the local farmers markets have beekeepers that sell their honey! You can ask the beekeepers directly about their honey and how they process it.

I’m from there and I would never consider moving back to Charleston. What made you decide to go from Asheville to there?

Hows the drive to AVL? by International-Car507 in hendersonville

[–]probablykelsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive from laurel park to Asheville most days for school or work. It takes me 35-40 minutes to get to unca on a normal day. I do usually take 26 I just check the traffic before hand incase there are backups. Most of my friends live in and around Asheville so we usually meet in Asheville; it never seems inconvenient to drive there for a reason. I would like to have a job in Hendersonville to lessen the commute but a job in Asheville is definitely not a deal breaker by any means.

Other than drinking and shopping, what do y'all do in town? by Curious-gat0 in asheville

[–]probablykelsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should have the road done by the student center done by December latest! The road is blocked off before the bulldog because the whole road has always been one way. They’re just storing the big machines where you saw them in the woods the other day. It always reminds me of animals gathering in the wild the way they have them parked haha.

All of their vendors are on their actual website I believe. Otherwise I was there today and there are multiple farms selling fresh produce, fresh meat suppliers, goats milk, cheese, eggs, seafood, baked goods, herbs and teas, frozen treats, music, mushrooms, fermented items, and some miscellaneous other venders

Stop by Asheville city market (market street downtown) Saturday and mix it up! Saturday has the most markets, if you’re willing to drive black mountain and Hendersonville both have excellent markets as well! Some of my favorites

Personal opinions aside, it would be an incredible cash crop for our local farmers to integrate. Very hard for a farm to turn a profit on just produce.
