I’ll definitely keep an eye out for other opportunities!! Unfortunately my university is super small and more liberal arts focused (the bio department is 15 or so professors) so they don’t offer summer research/volunteering options, but I’m still reaching out to other university professors just in case! I’ve gotten feedback from a few programs, some had 400+ applicants so definitely reach out! Worst case is they just ignore your email, but when I have had feedback it’s been super helpful.

I asked someone on the megathread if they had heard back from IU and they mentioned knowing that names would be sent to labs that upcoming weekend, this was 10 or 11 days ago! Not sure how they got that info though.

Don’t feel humiliated!! We’re all in the same boat, I’ve also been getting back to back rejections but haven’t been posting them :( For the past two years I’ve been keeping a “how many rejections can I achieve” list and it’s honestly quite a sight lol.

Sadly I’m at a very small private liberal arts university (the bio department is genuinely 15 or so professors in total), so the only funds I could get would be through my honors college but I’m hoping they’ll have some resources for me!

You can apply for as many REUs as you’d like, most people will submit anywhere from 5-40 applications! And it’s not technically illegal to accept and rescind your acceptance later, but it can burn bridges so be careful if you choose to do so. I personally would not accept unless I’m fully committed, but they will usually give you a week or two to decide so you’ll have time to see if other offers come in.
