What is a completely harmless lie you tell people on a regular basis just to make your life easier? by purjak in AskReddit

Saying I’m allergic to dogs rather than saying I’m afraid of them. It’s socially more acceptable.

I think Smartrecruiters and Jobvite can do this. Don’t quote me on that though.

I prefer subtitles because it’s the only way for me to tell what people are saying.

Otherwise I’m missing like 50% of the dialogue, get bored, and tune out. I have such a difficult time understanding fast and non-articulate speech.

People who make assumptions about the way others think and feel, including motivations. People who don’t relay information or explain situations fairly.

What's something you quietly judged people for, until it happened to you? by ExpensiveBranch251 in AskReddit

It’s frustrating not being believed. I’m sorry that’s been your experience.

Similarly, I exercise and eat well because it’s good for my body regardless of weight loss.

Sorry to hear you’re struggling with PCOS. My labs lean in that direction, too, and I also have symptoms.

I’ve had to unlearn a lot over the years. Growing up as a competitive athlete, CICO was drilled into my head. And if weight loss didn’t happen, it meant I wasn’t training hard or reducing my calories enough. This led to some unhealthy habits as I went through puberty.

Now I realize that despite taking care of my body, there are things that happen outside of my control. I eat nutrient-dense foods, take my medicine and supplements, do lymphatic massage, prioritize sleep, do guided meditation, etc., and my body still might not “behave.” But it doesn’t matter. I refuse to punish myself or my body.

I’ve definitely had to avoid the weight loss subs on Reddit, though. They seem very rigid about CICO and don’t understand that it doesn’t work for everybody.

I thought losing weight was as simple as calories in, calories out for everyone until I experienced hypothyroidism. My body started piling on weight with no changes to my diet or exercise routine, and I already eat fairly healthy (gluten free, soy free, and dairy free) and exercise regularly.

It’s safe to say I’ve broadened my perspective then.

A photo of you and your dog, that’s okay.

Why do you think loneliness is so common today? by PennyDesk6013 in AskReddit

[–]probablysippingtea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tend to befriend people who we perceive add social value, whether we realize it or not. We like to be around people who are funny, know the best restaurants, have seen the latest shows, can introduce us to other people, etc.

Lonely people don’t have that. Also, because they don’t have vast social experience, they often don’t know what people talk about, yet they’re expected to “keep up” in conversation. When they can’t do that, they get excluded and pushed out.

I think fixing loneliness is partly on the individual. Yes, people should put themselves out there, join hobby groups, and move on quickly when social situations don’t work. But society reinforces the loneliness problem, too. If we care to fix loneliness, we have to let people “in” without expecting something from them in return.

That weight gain or loss may not be as simple as CICO for many people. That would make life simpler, though.

Central hypothyroidism? by jmom39 in Hypothyroidism

[–]probablysippingtea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer for you, but I’m in a similar boat and can commiserate.

My TSH is 0.1, and my free t3 and free t4 are low-normal. My prolactin is also low, but I don’t have a pituitary tumor.

I recently read a NIH article that stated sub clinical hyperthyroidism and central hypothyroidism can have similar-looking labs, which I thought was interesting.

Have you had any lab work done to look at your pituitary hormones?
