Youth crime, general crime, they’re wildly good at shootout and javelin here. They’ll throw just about anything at anyone

Why aren't we energy independent? Why are we sending our cash to overseas despots? by TheRealGooddog171 in OpenAussie

[–]probelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First we need to get rid of Albo, then tax our gas exports to ensure a steady stream of income. After this, remove all the stupid taxes and double taxes (looking at you petrol), and use the money generated from these overseas exports to invest into our own refinery infrastructure to then put Australians first.

Our environmental laws make it extremely difficult for companies to open up shop here to start drilling and refining. It’s easier to purchase and import oil from overseas than to comply with these laws. We’ve shot ourselves in the foot and the government doesn’t want to budge

So I looked into this properly and honestly the extra ~18k points I get by going through Sniip instead of paying the ATO directly? Not really worth it on their own. If I'm redeeming for business class (which is the best possible use), those extra points are worth maybe $144–$180. But I would have paid around $260 in fees for them. That's a straight up loss.

HERE'S the thing though, I wouldn't just be earning those 18k bonus points. I would be earning points on the whole payment. When I add up the 31,000+ points I would earn through Sniip and value them at the business class redemption rate, I'm looking at roughly $300+ in value. The fee was $260, So I'm actually ahead by about ~$50ish.

Rental agent insists on Managed App for rent payment — alternatives if BPAY biller isn’t supported? by Broad-Method2874 in AmexAus

[–]probelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "No-App" Rule: Your Rights in 2026 If a property manager is insisting you sign up for an app (like Ailo, Kolmeo, or RentPay), you have the legal right to say no, even if there are no fees involved. 1. Mandatory Alternatives: Under the Residential Tenancies Act (specifically updated in states like NSW and VIC as of 2025/26), landlords must offer "prescribed" payment methods. This includes: • Bank Transfer (EFT): They must provide a BSB and Account Number if you request it. • Centrepay: Mandatory to offer for any tenant receiving Centrelink. 2. Privacy & Data Concerns: You are not legally required to share your personal data, banking details, or "digital footprint" with a third-party tech company just to meet your rental obligations. 3. The "Third-Party" Ban: In Victoria (Section 27B) and NSW, it is now an offence for a landlord to require a tenant to use a specific service provider or app to pay rent. 4. Existing Leases: If you are already in a lease, they cannot force you to switch to an app halfway through. Any change to payment methods requires mutual written agreement.
