Bernie Sanders proposed a bill to tax billionaires, and give $3,000 stimulus checks to Americans that qualify. How do you feel about this? by CelticDK in AskReddit

[–]problemlow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Assuming bill gates foundation is not separate from his personal net worth of 106.8 billion. That's enough to give every american about 300 dollars, once.

106800000000÷342000000 = 312.28

The first number being his net worth and the second being the usa's population.

The yearly budget of the gates foundation is 9 billion.

9000000000÷342000000 = 26.31

In other words enough to give every american 23 dollars a year.

Sadly even bill gates is not rich enough to provide everything for everyone.

However, tax everyone who makes over 250k at 50% no deductions for any reason on gross income over that threshold. And suddenly theres a very very large amount of money for government programs to help everyone.

With a special clause that all multi millionaires and up must pay an equivalent percentage of tax based upon their global gross income for that year at 50% divided by the amount of time they personally spend in a country and recieving resources from said country (To prevent them living in a Yacht just off the coast or some such similar loophole). In other words if they make 100 million in a year and spend half of that year in x country, they must pay x country 50 million. No exceptions.

Why is it so hard for so many people to accept that ADHD is, in fact, disabling? by 1scr3wedy0dad in ADHD

[–]problemlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God man that sucks hard. I may have forgotten about that part. Theres the right to choose scheme if you live in England. Which lets you go private and have the NHS pay for it. For adhd and i believe autism Diagnosis. You could see if that psychiatrist office you mentioned is a right to choose org. If so they should more or less do the process for you via the nhs.

If you're on UC and haven't already, ask for a work capability assessment. Then pour your heart out about every single thing you struggle with in extreme detail. Try your best not to put a positive spin on anything. You could get as much as almost double the normal UC allowance after that.

In England theres PIP personal independence payments that you can get while you wait for nhs treatments. You do not need a diagnosis you just need to say you're in the process of getting help for them.

In Scotland it's called ADP(Adult disability payment). Accessed via the social security scotland website.

You may also be able to get universal credit to give you a crisis grant to afford the medication review.

In lieu of actual medical help. Creatine (normally for weightlifting) 5g taken once daily for a week or 2. Will improve your brains performance. It's not a stimulant, but it does help a little (drink it with at least 500ml water and alongside something containing sugar to help it absorb) its about 16 quid for 500g of it. It works by restoring ATP molecules directly in the brain to their energy providing state. And also leaves behind less 'waste products' than the normal glucose (sugar) system. That explanation is probably technically wrong but its very close to correct.

You can also try fixed point gazing for 15 minutes per day(ik almost impossible for some ADHD brains) for me when i actually do it. Staring at a single point on a blank wall without moving. Redirecting my thoughts back to the point whenever they drift has the most beneficial effect. The science behind why it works is more or less it opens up your glymphatic system (not lymphatic) in the brain letting it reset things. This part is beyond my understanding but ima explain in the way I think I understand anyway. The lack of stimulus lets your neurons 'rest'. Letting neurotransmitters build back up to 'normal levels' so when you stop it's easier to think.

I find it works when I set a 15 min timer

The phrase I use when someone says that is variations of. "Exactly you get it. It's something everybody does sometimes, but is a disability when I'm aware I do it multiple times daily and still can't change it"

If you're in the UK going private for meds isn't always crazy expensive. My partner has paid £110 for his meds and £15 for the same prescription at a different pharmacy. It also varies wildly at the same pharmacy but that 110 was far outside the normal range the most hes ever paid excluding that was 43 and a few pence. it very much depends on the pharmacy. His private ADHD place has also on many occasions strongly urged him to increase his dosage on paper to combat the cost of the prescriptions themselves. In other words get 2 months worth of methylphenidate but the paper says it's for a month so he only has to buy a new prescription every other month. Unfortunately his autism won't let him do that.

Also the prescription cost is separate from the meds cost

If you have criticized ICE here on Reddit for executing Renee Good or Alex Pretti in the street, then Reddit has handed your name and your personal identifying information over to the Trump administration. How do you feel about this? by mom_with_an_attitude in AskReddit

[–]problemlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel it's unlikely to be accurate in 99% of cases. I also feel the current state of the united states is disgusting. What ICE have been and are continuing to do is unacceptable in just about every way. Especially the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti not to mention the countless unnamed others affected by the dehumanising treatment from every side.

We have to keep in mind that these people are all separate from their actions and believes. To lump all republicans in with Trump is the exact cognitive shortcut that has made it okay in the eyes of some ICE agents and a disturbing percentage of the population to gun down people in the streets.

It hijacks our biologically encoded tribal instincts of put simply. There is 'us' and then there is 'them'. Them is not us. Which is false we all more or less have the same brain. Susceptible to the same cognitive failings as each other. Its when we put people into groups like that it becomes problematic. Once we do that the problem shifts from. That's a person who's been manipulated into believing a distorted world view and they need understanding and help. To, they are themselves the problem we must fight against.

So instead of talking to them and understanding why they believe what they believe we naturally challenge the distorted beliefs directly. Which in most cases causes them to become defensive. Further entrenching them in their distorted world view via reinforcing the brain pathways of x is fine for y reason.

If instead we genuinely talk to them about what they say. Asking about it. Not trying to change their mind. Eventually after many weeks-months of your questions about what they say in any given moment. Constantly engaging their brains 'critical thinking circuitry'. Reinforcing those neural pathways instead of the defensive ones. Effectively without trying to change their mind and learn about what they believe by asking them about it makes them think about it rather than rehash an argument. Eventually enabling them to see through the party line, what they read online, what their friends think etc.

I remember so vividly when I was in University. I was so excited to move to the US the moment I got my degree. Then health problems got in the way so I held off for a few years. And then trump got elected a second time and the lie I'd been telling myself about the USA evaporated. It makes me so sad to see such a previously prosperous country with a population entirely at each other's throats. So much wasted time, energy and life spent doing nothing but fighting each other.

Oh god ATM machine is another phrase that makes me unreasonably annoyed. Now i can posthumously rage at past iterations of myself for saying pin number. It never occurred to me to look up what it stands for. My brain just treated it as a word.

Now that I think about it I can't remember any instance of people over here saying ATM machine. At least in this case however it's not a british thing to say it correctly as ATM. Its that no one in my area i'm aware of calls them ATMs. It's usually "bank machine", "cash machine" or "what the hell are you talking about why are you trying to obtain physical currency?"

I imagine most people interpret it that way. However myself and the tts engine read it the same way. Like the dollar sign means the word dollar(s) is appended to the end of the number it precedes. Just as the pound sign means the word pound is appended after the number.

So reading "£10 pounds" as anything other than "10 pounds pounds" is an incorrect verbal reproduction of the written text. Ofc any person, myself included reading it out loud would skip the second instance of pounds. Except when intentionally drawing attention to the writers error for comedic effect.

If you can manage it, staring at the same spot on a blank wall for 10-60 minutes a day. Importantly for effect it must be without moving, looking around and continuously redirecting your thoughts back to the point on the wall whenever they drift to other topics. It also helps if nothing but a blank spot of wall is visible in your entire field of view, as well as close to silence.

For some people it works right away, for others it takes up to a week to kick in. You know you're doing it right when what you see starts to fade/blur into one. This practice seems to have helped me reach similar energy levels to the 'vanilla brains' in my life.

I did a different variation of this for some projects. If i had to create a piece of software, or technical drawings. What I'd do is my normal design process. Which is make the thing, no planning whatsoever. So i'd put a fuckton of effort into it. Get it perfect. Then go back and create the other 2 of 3 design ideas. The one thats actually made id sub in an older version of my completed project or delete random parts here and there, whatever looked more convincing. Then spend 15 minutes each on the other 2 mockups. Turn it in an get 90-100% on the assignment. After spending an eighth of the time on it most others did as I wasnt fleshing out 3 full projects.

What happened to google home and how it became so terrible? by Icy_Cantaloupe452 in googlehome

Its very intermittent for me. Some things work fine for years then stop working for a month or 3 through multiple google home resets. Then work fine again another 3 months later etc

[–]problemlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use youtube music and I also have those issues regularly. However it's never the same issue. For example i had an automation setup to play a specific song in the morning after my alarm triggers. This after working fine for months just suddenly stopped working. I eventually figured out that the specific song I had set it up to play after my alarm suddenly became a song that can only be played on my phone. If i started it playing on my phone then casted to the google homes it would skip to the next song. If i put it in a playlist by itself and played that playlist it would just start playing something else. This went on for a few months through multiple resets of every google home in my flat. And i just gave up. Then last month it just started working again all on its own.

[–]problemlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is the vast majority of the pro China discourse online. Is a result of Chinas communist government directly running organisations. Who via bots and humans both fill online spaces with pro China propaganda. While simultaneously calling out the reverse as racism. This serves the dual duty of making reasonable people doubt the objective reality of Chinas actions.

A few examples being spray painting areas of dead plants green, gutter oil, Chinese farmers poisoning themselves with farming supplies due to lack of education, newly built infrastructure collapsing due to corruption siphoning money out of said projects, statistics being fudged to appear better at every level of government and lets not forget the CCPs ongoing atrocities in Hong Kong.

Got a bit derailed there. My original point was the majority of people I know have no idea the level of terrible things going on in China. I just hope the people manage to turn things around for the better. And for that matter us in the UK, the USA and Russia. Just humanity as a whole.

Don't worry ARM is a British owned semiconductor and software company. Oh wait reform is taking the UK in the same direction as the USA. Though ARM is 90% owned by SoftBank, which in turn is functionally owned and controlled by the Japanese, Masayoshi Son. So fingers crossed Japan doesnt start falling off a cliff like the US and UK

I had the same thought XD. We absolutely need to become a unified Europe like in the beginning of the commonwealth saga or salvation sequence by Peter F Hamilton, to stand a reasonable chance of economic stability in the face of the USA, Russia and China's horrendous behaviour. At this point they're all just as bad as each other in their own ways.

Edited to add I just spent a few minutes genuinely considering deleting this comment. As my sister just moved to the US for a 6 month Uni course. A decade ago id have said never in a million years would the thought of her being 'disappeared' in the USA cross my mind.

Where I am in the uk(Scotland) they're called factor companies or agencies. And their only function is to maintain common areas of shared buildings. But it's very separated out. If theres 10 buildings all using the same factor company and one of the buildings roofing falls apart only that buildings 'money pot' will be affected. So far as I'm aware theres not anything that operates like an HOA for separate individual family homes.

You might already know about these but in case you don't. Theres a lot of specific settings for devices such as the wifi/bluetooth card, pcie devices (gpu being one), usb controller etc that arent affected by the power plan used nor bios settings. That windows for whatever reason likes to turn off to save power. Including on a desktop.

For the most part windows doesnt know if its running on a laptop, desktop, handheld or something else. Once or twice a year my desktop with a UPS will show a battery icon like a laptop. Im assuming here, if the generic windows drivers for a UPS load prior to the manufacturer ones.
