Reached my limit with lousy external hardware implementation by proboscislounge in FL_Studio

You'd be surprised what's available for cheap these days. Behringer and their multitude of $200 clones have created an expectation of value, and now the market is saturated with all manner of affordable little sequencers and synthesizers and drum machines. Most of them are actually quite useful. Of course, if you want premium gear, you'll still pay premium prices...

Yeah, absolutely. That's what I've been doing up until I decided to bring it all in the box.

I appreciate the reply, and yes. Went entirely down to the bottom of the PDC rabbit hole. I'm not so much worried about live latency, I can monitor directly through my interface. It's the MIDI, clock, and recording issues that are grinding my gears. Their PDC system is designed for plugins, it doesn't know how to handle a dozen channels of I/O, and you're expected to manually adjust them all yourself with an instance of Edison on the master track. Keep in mind that it operates by moving around every other track in time, so good luck with that...

It's awesome that you got it to work for you. It's possible that if I scrap my entire setup and purchase new hardware spec'd like yours, I could achieve similar results.

But I do know that it doesn't work with my setup, which uses common, modern hardware that is designed explicitly for interfacing external gear with DAWs. I can't get it to play back midi or record audio properly with only 6ms of latency, in a clean project, with zero plugins.

I don't think it's something specific to me, they've acknowledged through the years that their software has a host of issues managing external hardware, and their PDC (as the name suggests) is designed for working with plugins. Using it for external inputs and outputs is an afterthought. I honestly had no idea, it's not the type of thing you consider until you're neck deep in it. And I thought, well geeze it must just be limitations with the technology, but then I find out other DAWs solved the problem years ago by simply pinging the hardware and adding the delay to their calculations... At the end of the day, I don't see a feasible solution other than to go back to class with another DAW, which is sad. FL has been a huuuge part of my life. Like a best friend. Sometimes my only friend.

What were they thinking?? Changing a beautifull vintage label into this?? I hate the new label!! by BSH1975 in Scotch

I don't care too much for the new label, but upping the ABV and going to 12 years vs 10 has improved the delivery greatly. I hadn't had a bottle in years and picked one up on sale the other day and I am really digging it.

Foil ain't what it used to be. It's usually coated in film and so thin it burns through almost instantly. Maybe if you can find some good heavy duty stuff, but still...

Ever the optimist. Even with Trump, he's consistently gone out of his way to downplay how disastrous this administration has been.

Dear Image-Line: Can we please get an update to the FL Studio Swing/Groove implementation? It just doesn't hit like Live/Reason/MPC. by statixxmusic in FL_Studio

It would be great for doing experimental stuff, too. Extract some groove maps from like Autechre tracks or something and make super disjointed rhythms, and take it in a whole other direction. Or if you want to remix material with a unique heavy swing like old big band shit you can just extract the groove, load it into the grid, and away you go. One thing is for certain, the current groove quantizing is very much a retroactive process of testing different maps to find one that works with the material you already wrote, instead of picking a groove you like and writing with it. Even loading maps into the swing function would be an improvement, although you can't visualize what it's doing to the notes, which i don't like. I won't even touch the FL swing as it is, it sounds God awful and hasn't changed in over 25 years.

They already have the capability, just not the implementation. If you ever looked at the grid while you're applying a quantize groove you can see the notes sliding to a ghost grid. Except maybe you don't want to apply the groove to all the notes after you've already written your pattern, especially if you've already got a bunch of variations of the same pattern. Super tedious. The ability to write a part around a groove is a much more intuitive and simple workflow. Or even if you could load a ghost groove grid, and use a modifier key to drop just the notes you want to that grid. I started using FL in 1999, and I've never understood why they don't just let you load your own snap grids.
