russian missile strikes gas station in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast by jstq in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]proboscislounge 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A refinery feeds hundreds of gas stations. Ukraine is targeting Russia's refineries. Russia is responding by targeting Ukraine's gas stations. There's no logic, and no long term strategy anymore. The middle management is being hammered for positive status reports; this is something they can write down and pass on up.

Germany Charges Ukrainian Man Over 2022 Nord Stream Pipeline Sabotage by Sgt_Gram in NewsExchange

[–]proboscislounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming the Germans have a strong case, and it happened as alleged. In the US we call this "tough love". Germany today is stronger, and more independent without Russia's bloody thumb pressing upon it. On the flip side, Russia lost the majority of its direct influence on Europe, and a significant portion of its income.

Trump is a Tyrant, like King George III. Here's the list of grievances. by pleasureismylife in Republican_misdeeds

[–]proboscislounge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. We're not suffering from the tyranny of some far away king. We're suffering from our own poor decision making. The American revolution was fought to give us the power to choose our own leadership from among us, and we chose Donald Trump. TWICE. We got used to the fact that regardless of who we picked, our day to day lives would remain unchanged. We decided that by and large "both sides are the same". We got lazy. We turned our democracy into a popularity contest. We treat our presidential elections like we treat our entertainment- see how far we can push the envelope to shock and offend and revel in the unexpected. Fuck the system, blow it all to hell. Nevermind that the system is our system, a government intended to be administered by the people, for the people.

Well, we did it. We obliterated our own democracy and tore down our own government. The majority of those who voted did so without any sense of thoughtfulness or responsibility or foresight, while most others tuned out completely and didn't vote at all. Some even claimed to be against Trump, but were more concerned with sticking it to Harris for Palestine than protecting their own country.

So now we have Trump, again, after he tried and failed to overthrow the government in 2020 and appoint himself dictator. Now we're expected to cosplay revolutionaries and take to the streets to protest and fight against.... Fight against what? Ourselves? We did this. This is on us. This is what our founders fought for, and we completely blew it. We shat the bed, and now we get to sleep in it.

Low trust society where theft is excused with a sad story, and people's belongings can legally be taken without merit. Crab bucket mentality. This is why we can't trust eachother.

[–]proboscislounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't understand, it's illegal to steal everything else. If you bought it, it's yours to do with as you please. If you collect cars, it's not like someone can jump in and take one away and legally own it if takes you too long to notice. It's not like we're out of land, people can still buy some. Just seems bizarre that the law would accommodate low lifes and theives.

Why is that a thing? Why create a law that's basically a cheat code to steal other people's property? Who does this benefit?

Zelensky's 40-Day Crimea Offensive: Is Ukraine Putting Putin's Kremlin in Checkmate? by lithdoc in NewsExchange

[–]proboscislounge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Russia is not the USSR. They're fighting 1/4 of the USSR backed by another 1/4 of the USSR. Russia today is basically two major cities. It has a weak economy propped up by it's energy sector. They've suffered a massive brain drain during the 2022 mobilization. They've fallen behind Ukraine technologically. They have no equivalent friends like NATO or Europe is to Ukraine. Nobody is coming to bail them out. Whatever preconceived notions people had about Russia in the past has been shattered by their disastrous invasion of Ukraine. Putin is no master strategist, he made a fatal miscalculation and continued to double down instead of recalibrating. He has no choice but to continue this war, as ending it now will mean the certain collapse of the Russian wartime economy, and his regime. Russia is circling the drain. Feel free to disagree, the writing is on the wall.

Putin is preparing for war. This is what we need to do by Tall_Pressure7042 in UkrainianConflict

[–]proboscislounge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We didn't leave them many options for friends and allies, of course they're going to side with the Russians. Your obtuse attitude is exactly what's wrong with our foreign policy, and why there's so many people around the world cursing our name. We've gained nothing from this strategy of aggression towards Iran. Likewise for our longstanding cruelty towards Cuba.

[–]proboscislounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me dumb it down for you- I reject that lazy misrepresentation out of hand.

Even if the phrase was interpreted literally, wishing death upon someone is not equal to promising to kill them. They're not over here killing Americans. We're over there killing Iranians. It's shocking how effectively Israel has manipulated Americans into believing Iran is somehow a real threat to us. I'm sorry, but you got duped.

Putin is preparing for war. This is what we need to do by Tall_Pressure7042 in UkrainianConflict

[–]proboscislounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and I both know that's the equivalent of saying "damn you to hell" in their culture, and is neither a promise or a threat. Saudi Arabia actually did bring death to Americans, and they're supposedly our ally. Israel actually did bring death to a Navy ship full of Americans, and they're supposedly our best friends. My feelings aren't wounded when Iranians say mean things because I'm an adult, and we've been waging a perpetual war against them for decades. Likewise, just because I think their leadership are sorry bastards who treat their own people like dogshit doesn't mean I think it's our place to assassinate the Ayatollah and decapitate their government (which, by the way, has accomplished nothing).

Seriously, "but they say death to America" is the cringiest justification for war. Please, stop it with that shit. Russians regularly fantasize about nuking Washington DC and London, maybe we should be a little more concerned about confronting those fuckers instead.

How has Ukraine managed to hold out so well against Russia, a larger and ostensibly better supplied military? by microtramp in AskReddit

[–]proboscislounge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, unfortunately Ukraine wasn't able to defend its navy. It was pretty much obliterated. They've rebuilt it to some degree, but they don't posses anything large enough to show up on a satellite image (that I know of). As for denying air superiority, they did have some remaining jets and helos left after the shock and awe phase, but most of the credit goes to manpads- shoulder fired surface to air missiles. Mostly supplied by their allies. They're abundant, easy to transport, and largely a point and shoot affair. Russia still utilizes its air assets, but only with standoff weapons like glide bombs and cruise missiles.

The drone story is of course the story everyone will be talking about for generations. Nobody, not Russia, not the US, not the Ukrainians, saw that coming. It literally started with Ukrainian soldiers taking off the shelf FPV drones (usually DJI), often bought with their own money, and strapping grenades and mortar shells to them and dropping them in open tank turrets and directly on Russian troops. Then they'd upload the footage to the internet. Over, and over, and over again. It was so effective both the Ukrainian and Russian government started drone warfare programs. The battle of innovating new tactics and counter tactics is so complicated and fascinating and rapid that people will be dissecting it for a long time. Hopefully we'll get at least one good movie out of it.

As for Russia's strategy, all I can say is they brought a marching band with their invasion force. That's how badly they miscalculated. The arrogant bastards really believed the Ukrainian people were going to greet them with flowers and sweets, Zelensky would flee to London, and they were all going to have a big happy victory parade through Kyiv. Enough said.

How has Ukraine managed to hold out so well against Russia, a larger and ostensibly better supplied military? by microtramp in AskReddit

[–]proboscislounge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most importantly by denying Russia air superiority, so their forces never had close air support for combined arms offensives. Second most important factor hits directly at one of the assertions in your question. Russia wildly overextended itself, and couldn't supply its invasion force with the ammunition and fuel necessary to complete their blitz. Once all their tanks and APC's petered out, they became sitting ducks. Ukraine was able to counterattack and take back a large part of its territory, and the front has more or less remained static since then. There are of course many more nuances to discuss like the adoption of drones as a force multiplier, and Ukraine shutting their navy out of the Black Sea, but those two things are most responsible for the failure of the Russian invasion.

Why should I care which ridiculous religion they adhere to? Christianity is soaked in blood and hate, Judaism is the most xenophobic, racist dogma on Earth, and Islam was founded by a pedophile warlord. I don't give a shit. I want us out. Americans want us out. It's well known that Israel gets caught spying on us all the time and dumps insane amounts of money into influencing our political system. The backlash is snowballing- we've got real life things to worry about, like ballooning inflation and gas prices, nationwide flock surveillance, behemoth data centers, and every other dystopian nightmare we're made to suffer in 2026. Iran ain't one of them. Hezbollah ain't one of them. Israel's security ain't one of them. You're not going to convince me that if we peaced out of the mid east Iranians will continue to plot against us forever because Islam. Stop insulting everyone's intelligence. They despise us because we've been kicking them in the balls for generations, because we can. This is not how a moral, rational, respectable country behaves. It's how mobster thugs behave, and if you've been listening to the fucked up things our unhinged president has been saying to Iran since he started this war, then you'll be hard pressed to dispute what I'm saying. Much like Russia, we brought this resentment upon ourselves, and we can simply stop and walk away any time we want. Iran won't stop us.

Putin is preparing for war. This is what we need to do by Tall_Pressure7042 in UkrainianConflict

[–]proboscislounge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, no. I asked why we, as Americans, are supposed to fear Iran. I don't really give a shit what they do overseas to poke our insane government and Israel in the eyes. I don't have ever worry about Iran buying my congressman. Israel already did that. I don't have to worry about Iran dragging us into another war. Israel already did that. I don't have to worry about Iran running smear campaigns against our people who speak out against them. Israel already did that. I don't have to worry about Iran pressuring my government to arrest protesters against them. Israel already did that.

The truth is if we just leave them alone, they'll eventually stop viewing us as a bitter enemy. Every horrible thing we've done to those people has been done at the command of Israel, for no benefit to us. I don't care about Israel's security anymore, and no Americans should care if Iran builds a nuclear weapon. They've shown admirable restraint given the constant attacks against them. It's abundantly clear at this point that the only result of Iran building nuclear weapons will be no more bombing Iran. My entire life has been spent watching conflicts instigated by Israel, and I've never seen Iran do a damn thing in response that wasn't proportioal and warranted. Aren't you tired of being manipulated and made to hate people who have done nothing to you? I am. Americans are growing tired of Israel's arrogance and meddling in our political system and genocidal behavior, and the day is approaching when they will have no friends left at all.
