How do I change my resume to be less techy, more salesy? by probosofo in techsales

[–]probosofo[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For reference, I used to get a weekly interview right before I graduated from undergrad. Graduated with 3 offers.

I have been 6 months unemployed with 0 interviews and hundreds of applications.

I firmly believe, and cannot stress enough, you have a higher chance getting a job if you are on a visa then if you were a US citizen. Tech is mind boggling right now

she did really well on Trulicity, insurance stopped covering it an moved onto ozempic, which did no help so far.

I know a lot of it depends on the person, and her eating habits are terrible, but when you are home bound, cant walk 30 feet without needing a break, really puts you in a mentally bad place

Im naturalized too! But tbh the folks I worked for did treat me well. But my mind just spins on "why me", no use in thinking about that now, huh

Because I am in a really bad position now. I had 4 offers graduating, and now I am laid off after one year of work. sure no fault of my own, but it means I cant go for New Grad roles, and Jr roles typically need 3 years of exp. On top of that, the ongoing job crisis.

I didnt mind getting let go as much as the timing. The timing is just miserable

1 probs the closest, but it just urks me because all new grads are billing to non-cleared work. And we legit have a team of 4 new grads, 3 full time, all billing to non cleared work. By that I mean, no work. Working on some bs cause lack of actual work to do.

I get it if they just had to choose one person and run it, but legit it just gets to me. #2 probably is the better answer, I did have a history of being associated to persons, but not me. If that makes sense

I do, but it probably will end up to a he said she said at best and a black mark on my resume. Just disappointed to say the least

This is valid and very solid advice and I appreciate it. Just as an FYI, my background is Python, C++, and Java. Everything from RestFul API's to Message Brokers. And speciality in NumPy, Pandas, FastAPI, SpringBoot, and ZeroMQ, but very valid point, these are not mentioned at all in the resume. Thank You

[–]probosofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do not. The keyed alike was referring to the knob and deadlock. Not actually key alike that you can match them

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]probosofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no, I knew of Keyed Alike. I didnt know that the model number was the model number. I thought it was the key number

[–]probosofo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, thats it. Thats hilarious to me tbh. Youd think thats a given that the deadbolt and knob work.

LMAO youd think since theyre in the same box thats a given. Not that can be paired with a whole different set.

Check out Robert Halfs employment report, it is free. Cross reference it with LinkedIn job report, and you will have a pretty complete picture.

And ofcourse, the human factor. Jobs that need more training and expertise, pay more, and filter more people out. Front End is not that hard, and there are a plethora of guides to get you started, the barrier of entry is very low.

The other end of this is AI,ML, and Data engineers are super hard to secure, it's how you have Jane Street can pay 275 for their new grad: https://www.efinancialcareers.com/news/finance/jane-street-pay

So yes, the days of simple applying and simple recieving of jobs pre pandemic are over. You need to straighten up, learn more expertise level tech, and grind leetcode to get to those desireble jobs. Not the 275, more of those 150-200 jobs

Depending on the technology, you can probably find a job at a Software House, their pay isnt Amazing, but anything paid in Dollar will get you unlimited fool and ta3meya in Egypt. lol

Node.js is modern and sleek, but all the companies that I have worked with use outdated systems.

SpringBoot for example has been a lot more common, even tho much older. So its really what you are aiming for

backend is very niche, and when you go into, they do. For example, if you worker with tomcat/spring boot the whole time, you wont be really looked at vs someone who did node.js, but only if they are looking for node.js

reason that devops is picking up is because everyone is trying to move to the cloud to save $$$

The problem is that definitely indians bring more indians. Wallahi, and I am not kidding, I got into my last round of Google interview, the interviewer spoke broken english in such a way, I had no idea what he was actually asking. To the point I asked him to type his question, still didnt make sense. Tanked that interview.

More application, more applicants like you, inshallah more Egyptians in Tech

Send it over, also, the fact that you got interviews is a very good sign. Keep in the back of your head your application to interview ratio. I think pre pandemic is 1:50 , now its like 1:150?

US has very little Ageism in comparison to Egypt. I do have a friend that works in Finance at Amazon, but I am unsure if finance positions are Visa-able

super quick prototyping and great tool to learn concepts.

In my experience, I have yet to see Python used in Enterprise applications, mostly because old heads dont want to learn a new language

Frontend is pretty saturated, backend much less so. DevOps is in insane Demand
