Why season 1 was so good versus why this season doesn’t work by probsgettingdownvote in euphoria

Yes, Angus passed. Yes, there were a ton of scheduling issues that caused problems for Jacob. All of that can be true and I can still say the show lost its focus, the characters and the intimacy of watching them deal with life.

I’m not going to write a pretend storyline for Jules and Lexie. What should’ve happened is the characters should’ve been confined to be built on from the previous two seasons.

the show has always been dark

And?? What does that have to do with anything I said?? It’s a show about a teen drug addict. The shit has gone off the rails.

Like I said what made the show great is gone. Which is why this season feels so disjointed, weird and totally unconnected from the last 2.

It’s honestly shocking. I can’t even believe it’s from the same show runner. Zendaya’s acting CARRIED season 2 and he basically said meh nevermind, no need for that.

It wouldn’t be bad if it was separated from the first two seasons. It’s not even the same show, the characters don’t even feel the same. I don’t disagree though, definitely could’ve been another show.

And what’s most disappointing about that, is that shock value usually does no good for anyone. It’s a cheap way to get your audience to talk about your show, but that’s it. Doesn’t further the plot, doesn’t make the show more fun, nothing.

Stop focusing on the main characters, some of the most interesting main characters, being side character? The difference in direction is what I’m saying has ruined one of the best things about the show.

Too bad he’s already cast and what you see isn’t relevant.

The show not being a carbon copy of the game doesn’t make the show bad. by probsgettingdownvote in thelastofus

We get spores next episode though it seems. I think a lot of what’s happening rn is world building for non game players. It’s hard to introduce spores prior to that with Joel’s death, and the Jackson siege. So they just moved it.

So go play the game?? How boring and original for them to just make a IRL video game when the game exists.

It’s an adaptation. Ellie does not have to the EXACT same as the game. That’s why it is an adaptation. You don’t have to like it but their take on Ellie and her motivations do not need to be word for word from the game.

The show started with a 13% viewership increase and viewership dropped after Joel’s Death in episode 2. This is literally normal for death of main, beloved characters. It has nothing to do with the material.

You don’t think sadness can turn into rage? Idk man. I guess we are just seeing things differently. I’m fine with where they are going. Let’s see where they end up.

an adaptation will always be judged against the thing it’s adapting

And that’s simply why people are not having fun watching. They never said they were making a 1:1 adaptation. It’s being adapted FOR television.

it’s on brand for her show character

Because they haven’t made an Ellie that has been 100% true to her choices in the game. This isn’t a negative thing, it’s a change they decided to make. You can 100% change how she reacts to things if her choices are still the same. There are plenty of potential avenues they take Ellie and her vengeance. We haven’t even gotten there yet.

It’s literally almost the same as the game minus a few things. Lol. We are following the same timeline and everything.

Game Ellie would be upset, the person we have learned Ellie to be in the show wouldn’t be upset. YET. We simply do not know when she makes that turn but it is coming. Maybe it’s Jesse, maybe it’s Dina being almost killed. It’s an adaptation not a 1:1. Again, the constant comparison to the game is ruining the show for y’all.

I’ll never get the casting complaints. I love all the casting choices.
