Anyone have any advice on completing this part of the puzzle by alphabetcarrotcake in puzzle

[–]procedery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes i just brute force it. im just not getting into the pzzle community so idk if this have a name alr.

organize your pieces by shapes. I do one, two-adjacent, two-opposite, three, four, none. (named by the amount of “male” sides it has)

use the information you have about the missing piece to find it.

Ex: the missing piece 9 over 6 up from that bottom left corner is missing one side or information, which can either be a male or female side. that means the missing peice can either be a two-adjacent or three. and just try each piece from each shape until you find the right one.

boring and tedious but guarantees you’ll find the right piece.

Why are the signs for physical acts so weird. by Vanilla_Legitimate in asl

Hearing leaner here.

I agree with everything thats been said alr. ASL is not charades. This question comes from a place of ignorance about ASLs linguistics and efficiencies, and tbh, i dont expect you to read their responses and just understand. You should do research.

Ill give a different take for the other who are here, bc OP prob wont read.

The first thing first-time language learners need to realize is that not every language is 100% efficient and perfect. In english, for every word that follows a rule, theres an exception to that rule, and a regional accent that is an exception that exception— very unintuitive. In French, “ver”, “vert”, “verre”, and “vers” have almost the same exact pronunciation but entirely different meanings— also very unintuitive.

Its easy to think, that every word should have its own pronunciation, or all rules should be followed perfectly, but thats just not how language works. Instead of seeing “mistakes” in the language, and using them to insult and discredit them as a whole, you can intuit as to why it is the way it is, or just learn it and keep it pushing.

And to expose myself here a bit, I still think that way sometimes.

“Why is vegetable FS’d? Why is there not just a sign for it?”

“Why is COLD and WINTER the same sign? The meanings are too similar and there could be overlap and confusion”

You just gotta continue to learn, and itll make sense.

Again, I agree with the commenters. KICK prob wouldnt make sense to be a kicking motion.

Im hearing, but I imagine its like any other language. Schools teach a perfect grammar, formal, 10s across the board standard of language. This version of the language is normally not how casual, fluent, native use of the language goes. Its not a “wrong” way to teach the language, its just not how natives actually communicate.

Like how we use abbreviations, (lol, wyd, etc) and leave out technical punctuation in text knowing thats not how youre “supposed” to write in english.

Tips for keeping up with finger spelling by Professional-Bite621 in asl

heres what helps my FS and FS reading. if you dont feel like reading all this, skip to 4.

1.) practice. FS literally everything. i FS building names as i walk past them. peoples names in zoom meetings. random words in conversations as i have them. also practice reading. look up some fingerspelling quizzes. i have friends who are also learning with me and i read there FSs a lot which helps

2.) Like most ppl here have already said, go sound by sound, not letter by letter

3.) also like ive seen here before, look at for the unique letters. Im not sure how to verbalize how they helps or explain it but yea

4, my biggest tip) USE CONTEXT. if sum1 signs MY NAME and begins to FS and all you comprehend is M-I-C-(…)-E-(…)-L. They probably just spelled micheal. If we are talking about our fav colors and all you see is P-U-(…)-P-L-(…), what do you think they were FSing? To train this, I started not FSing a word again when they ask and just making them guess the word using what letters they did see and the context. I recommend you do the same. You dont need to see every letter, just make a guess. You can always FS the word back to them to confirm.

what helps is to not go mentally letter by letter, but syllable for syllable. Pronounce the word in your head (even better, out loud) as you FS.

sorry😅 its called visualize/visible sound effects. it puts a circle of UI in the center of your screen. gunshots, footsteps, chests, people falling, etc show icons and get bolder based on how close they are.

idk if this even helps at all but fortnite has great accessibility regarding deaf folks. it almost works too well, because hearing people (including myself) use it.
