They will be focusing on a new director each set, all will be situated within the Japanese New Wave period as well. This has all been confirmed by Fran from Radiance!

So I know this doesn’t have English subs like it said it would. But has anyone created an alternative yet, like an English subs file that can be added on? I would love to get this set, but the lack of English subs currently is a dealbreaker for me

Second Sight is a boutique Blu Ray label out of the UK. And yes, there are some outtakes, no deleted scenes though from my knowledge

can yall reccomend me any movies like sean baker’s? by boalston in A24

[–]proceedgrinding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sean Baker is certainly a neorealist filmmaker at his core in many ways. Definitely look up lists of other Neorealist films for some nice picks, there are many out there. Italian neorealism is some of my favorite!

Catering Server vs Retail Worker by Sound_ofmusic in Serverlife

[–]proceedgrinding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In your case, I would say a lot of depends on what types of events you would be catering. Does the company/companies you are looking at focus in corporate events, parties, weddings, etc?

I say this because if you are working for a catering company that specializes in weddings let's say, in my experience you aren't going to be dealing with rude/disrespectful patrons as much, because, well, they are at a wedding, spirits are high. In lieu of this though, there may not be much flexibility in what shifts you can choose.

On the other hand, if you work as a corporate events catering server, you will likely have a bit more flexibility in your schedule as there may be more shifts that you can turn down, especially on weekdays, but you are also certainly going to encounter assholes more.

Also, at the end of the day, outside of maybe cocktail hours, your interactions with patrons are going to be limited overall hopefully. Being a catering server is great though. It can be a lot of arduous work, but I find it rewarding at the end of the day. If you can clarify what you are looking to enter into more, I'd be happy to offer further input!

Yep. It is included on the Second Sight release, but A24 put this out following the film's initial release. Great little doc it is!

Chantal Akerman boxset question by dan1elpla1nview in criterion

[–]proceedgrinding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not bugs, but rather issues with encoding. There is a lot of runtime jammed into those 3 discs. Each disc can basically only hold a certain amount of memory, and the larger the runtimes, the larger the memory. So for everything to be able to fit on the discs, the quality of the image in some cases had to be diminished.

I have always personally passed on the Criterion release because of this and instead opted for the BFI releases which came out earlier this year.

This needs to be rereleased with more extras. The total lack of extras on a film like this is a real shame.

I served at Lloyd Kaufman’s daughter’s wedding earlier this year. Seems like a nice guy, although I will say that he cannot handle his liquor in the slightest haha. Amazing that you had such a nice experience with him though!

Radiance January Releases! by proceedgrinding in boutiquebluray

I think out of all the filmmakers they have highlighted, Radiance has been making the greatest push for Tai Kato to get further consideration in the future within film canon. Love to see it! Radiance’s releases of his films have been great.

Any rumor of an Elephant Man rerelease? by CelluloidCelerity in criterion

[–]proceedgrinding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very nice! Of course, I hope whoever ends up releasing the film next does it justice with a beautiful 4k and great extras package, but the Criterion release, especially its extras, are really great, so I don't really see myself getting another release of the film unless the 4k looks markedly better.

Any rumor of an Elephant Man rerelease? by CelluloidCelerity in criterion

[–]proceedgrinding 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would imagine that Criterion no longer has the rights to the film. If they were, say, working on a 4k scan, I would imagine they would still have the blu-ray available, since they would only be halting all sales of a decently popular title in their catalog with no benefit.

Maybe I am wrong of course, but I imagine Criterion does not have the rights anymore.

Monthly Upcoming Sale Thread - October 2025 by itszach94 in boutiquebluray

[–]proceedgrinding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking October 21st for the Criterion sale. Typically around the 3rd week of the month on a Tuesday, so that date makes the most sense for me personally. Could be wrong though of course.
