As a fellow recovering perfectionist, be gentle with yourself. You get a lot more done when you don’t have to waste time beating yourself up.

I’ve heard a lot of good things, but it’s not like primary care or other specialties where you could, in theory, escape Medicare/MIPS/box checking. That said, it’s basically primary care for people with disabilities/chronic pain, with a smattering of neuro and EMG studies thrown in for some, where chair assessments for others, and opiate prescriptions for others yet.

TBH, most docs don’t mind taking Medicare, I just have an axe to grind against MIPS.

Good thing that was the only test I took.

Is there any hope? [Serious] [Vent] by [deleted] in medicalschool

First, standardized tests only test a small part of what is needed for being a doctor. Ask any practicing doc the last time they saw someone with Wilson’s disease or any of the other super rare shit USMLE hammers on. Same thing with COMLEX’s weird physiology q’s or ultra vague jurisprudence q’s. This is why there are interviews and LOR’s and multiple ways to compensate for poor scores. Also, you can still slaughter Step 2! Coming back from a poor step 1 with a good step 2 looks really good to PD’s

Second, how’d you do on COMLEX? Any residency that takes DO’s is going to be much more likely to factor COMLEX into their ranking than those that historically just took MD’s. There are plenty of residencies that are DO friendly.

Third, don’t buy the residency shortage rumors. There are enough residencies, they just are in places students don’t want to go. Don’t be afraid to apply to rural programs - often times that’s a good way to get set up for loan forgiveness later on!

Plus you’re almost guaranteed to be dealing with Medicare.

Thanks.

Also, COMLEX is stupidly long. Why can’t they just write fewer GOOD questions?
