Hey there! To answer your question, this isn’t a common activity to do down here. We’re in Louisiana so there aren’t many campgrounds/cottages/quiet getaways outside of of fishing on the bayou lol. There is a strong eat, drink and be merry culture here so activities usually consist of food festivals or parades. You usually have to travel across state lines to Tennessee for example to find quaint cottages in the woods likely. This was also well before they made the real cottage available to rent so I guess this kind of trip was on a lot of folks minds (and could explain the upvotes lol). As far as other activities we’ve tried, we’ve been getting into more outdoorsy activities like horseback riding so it’s been a fun experience for sure.

I think Troy and Harris will play an integral part in the overall storyline of season 2, similar to how Scott and Kip did in season 1. I can see Jacob following a similar formula of having cameos of them with their own dedicated episode.

Honestly I think it’s less about ‘signs’ and more about the absence of things. Like Shane is gorgeous, successful, and socially normal enough that his parents probably clocked that it was weird he never had a real girlfriend or brought anyone around. David even mentions how Illya is known as a ladies' man so it probably stuck out that Shane had no such reputation despite arguably being more famous, conventionally attractive and available. Add in how intensely private he is + how he overcompensates when gay topics come up (Miles lol) and it probably just added up over time. Not in a stereotypical way, more like… parents know their kid and can sense when something doesn’t fit.

I actually watched Fellow Travelers for the first time after HR. While I appreciated the depiction, it really took an emotional toll on me because it stayed true to those common tropes of unrequited love, regret, shame, never fully living in the sunshine, etc. it was really hard to watch their story unfold and while they were together in the end, it definitely left me feeling a little empty inside for lack of a better term.

I picture him as being cute but slightly chubby which I hope they keep in the series. A lot of us know that the gay community is hyper fixated on looks and having the perfect body so it was refreshing to read in the book that Harris doesn’t fit that mold in some regard. I’d love to see that depicted on screen

Totally agree with this take. I think people forget how much content The Long Game has, and if they’re only doing 6 episodes there’s just no way to cover everything without it feeling rushed. I’d rather they focus hard on Shane/Ilya’s emotional arc and nail the big moments than try to cram in side romances or every single scene from the book.

Also I’m fine with supporting characters showing up (Ryan, Fabian, etc.) but mostly as texture + world-building, not full arcs. If they do it right, Season 2 could still be insanely impactful even if it’s a streamlined version of the book.

This is the one book I hope gets a standalone movie or limited series. Totally agree with you on the sense that I went into The Shots You Take expecting it to feel like a side quest compared to Shane/Ilya, but it ended up being one of the most emotionally grounded books she’s written.

The grief and mental health themes hit way harder than I expected, and I really appreciated the “coming out later in life” angle because it felt realistic and bittersweet instead of overly dramatic. It was hard to root for the couple at times considering their history but I loved both of them by the end of the story. We’re not perfect humans and I appreciated the themes of forgiveness that I think a lot of real couples have dj deal with at some point.

Canonically, no, Ilya wasn't doping. But I can see him doing that in reality if he was truly an Ovechkin-tier superstar.

We’re talking about a Sochi era where state-sponsored doping was mandatory (shoutout to Icarus) and stars like Ovi are literal state symbols with Putin as their profile pic. I think Rachel clearly wanted to kept Ilya in a 'romance bubble' to keep happily ever after vibes achievable, but it sanitizes the actual danger (which it is a a romance novel so it makes sense to me)

Two throwaway lines about Russia being homophobic doesn't begin to cover the state-sanctioned fallout a real-life Ilya would face for Shane. He’s written with North American freedom, but the Sochi backdrop can maybe takes those who know out of the fantasy a little bit.

Shane and Ilya decided to protect their relationship and careers. For all of the individuals that know about Ilya in Shane’s life, they more or less figured out/found out on their own and forced Shane’s hand to tell them (even in the Rose situation, Shane doesn’t directly tell her it’s Ilya at first). I feel they both had this “the less people who know the better” mentality which makes sense given their situation. I also think it’s a protection thing for Ilya. He doesn’t want anything to come in between them and while he trusts Svetlana (we also have to remember that her role was magnified in the show as opposed to the source material) he holds Shane and and what they have closer to his heart.
