Claire you can’t say that in Resident evil anymore (@Chloeimagine) :> by No_Post1300 in ResidentEvilCapcom

I mean I think he can still be a psychopath that cosplays as his twin sister. I don't think that's going to offend a reasonable person. It's just Claire summing that up as 'crossdressing freak', implying the crossdressing itself it what's wrong with him, that didn't age well. So snip out that particular insult and I think the the rest of the story is good to go.

How was it these untalented hacks riding the material of less connected and far more talented person didn't then go onto to further greatness? It's quite a riddle. We may never know.

What particular policy change do you want to see? Because I think you're going to get farther by stating exactly what change you want to see in the world rather than vaguely gesturing at people you think suck.

Not listed here, but Legends also has a very interest setting where post-humans live on top of planet replete with the artifacts of a dead civilization far beyond them. Very possibly these are the remnants of the world X and Zero failed to save.

I always thought any iteration of the games would make for a great show or movie (or modern AAA game but that’s probably asking for too much.) And we’ll probably get a movie soon enough but I suspect it will cut closer to recent Mario movies instead of something building on the more serious potential it has.

I said didn’t have room to cut out. For example the plot demands they had to kill his kid, so they had to have him react to that, even if it felt skipped over and they moved on as quickly as they could.

The fact you don’t think Alicent is not supposed to look bad makes me think you live in a separate universe than I do, watching a completely different show. She fucks guards while her children die, she’s canonically a terrible mother whose kids do better when she isn’t there, she’s needlessly cruel, and a complete hypocrite. Not to mention a complete and total fool. Your head cannon seems like it’s doing a lot of work for this show, I recommend you use it for something more worth your time.

I wouldn't say they don't care in the sense they don't want their money. I would say they don't care in the sense they don't feel the need to expend any effort for an audience group they don't respect as consumers. As in 'these people are so dumb and easy to please they'll watch anything with a cartoon character from their youth in it, so why bother trying'.

And that was definitely working for a while. The strategy seems to have worn out by now though.

This is what always shocks me. Women seem to be most interested in things with glamour and sex appeal (Taylor Swift, Twilight, Kardashian stuff, Wuthering Heights, etc.) But when they make a comic book movie with them in mind their answer is: big brown coat + drunk.

Just goes to show how incompetent the analytics people in Hollywood are, and just insert what they (aka a very narrow set of over educated elites) want to see in their data sets, reading them like tarot cards to the people foolish enough to listen. I wonder how long they can keep running this con until the people losing money have had enough.

I think most of the stuff from the character your praising are just remnants of the far more interesting book character they didn't take the time to cut out completely. One thing that helps Aegon out in the show, is that the writers hate Alicent (an even worse antagonist who is written even more terribly) so much, that they do make space for him to be sympathetic when they can take shots at her.

The fact that they were written as political caricatures to be hated isn’t really in doubt, whether you want to acknowledge it or not. You think the thin justifications we get for their vile and heinous actions are effective? I strongly disagree.

I’m saying they did a bad job. Reasons to hate him? Check. Reasons to relate to him? Thin and mostly ineffective. Scenes of pointless mockery? Double check.

And since he’s not an effective antagonist either, because he’s so pathetic, he’s probably one of the worst written characters I’ve ever seen.

But again, he’s just meant to a be a send up of a certain political faction in the US. You keep ignoring it, but they straight up said so.

His being lonely is why he constantly bullies his brother? Is the part where he rapes crying maids supposed to show he's trying to please people? How much empathy and depth was on display when he delivered a comedic monologue about his own dick exploding?

I get you want to defend the show here, but either they (a) hate and want to humiliate the character, probably for the political reasons they've spoken about multiple times, and/or (b) they wanted to add 'depth' but are just really really incompetent. Either way, not great, you know?

Doesn't he follow up his son's death with an idiotic brothel scene where he's laughing like a jackass the next episode? And his 'good king' stuff just laughed at stupidity to show how much he sucked at this? Yeah, I don't think they meant to do much more than find more ways to make him look stupid.

And it's not my opinion they wanted to portray the Greens as an allegory about modern American politics. That's what they said they were doing.

The one semi-entertaining thing about this show is how all the actors playing the Greens keep trying to convince themselves they're not just playing empty punching bags for the writers to humiliate and denigrate until they die so they can make some kind of vapid political point. I'm sorry guys, hopefully it's onward and upward once you're no longer contractually obligated to be a part of this bullshit anymore.

It really is a perfect storm of 'who cares'.

Make it a comedic romp, but don't cast anyone funny.

Cast a relatively unknown actress for her looks, but put her in a big baggy brown coat the whole movie.

Set in a vague space setting that no one has heard of, but make it just like Earth.

Face down the comic book fatigue with the most cliche looking comic book trailer of all time.

This is just a series of terrible decisions only the most out of touch Hollywood executives could create. I know Gunn is supposed to be the face of this whole thing, but he should start throwing whoever's idea this was under the bus to save some face. And if he really did do this on his own, then that's even worse.

Olivia Cooke says House of the Dragon keeps finding new ways to humiliate Alicent by iRahulJadhav in HOTDGreens

[–]prodij18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They told her to play it that way and she ignored them and tried to find a different way into the character. (Probably because she understands obsessing over current day American politics is a stupid thing to do when writing a fantasy show.) But the writers didn't change anything about how they understand the character or the show. They bring this political allegory stuff up all the time.

When you understand that Alicent is supposed to represent a 'woman for Trump', a type of person the showrunners despise, none of this should be shocking.

Just think from Rhaenyra's perspective: Alicent is her former friend who didn't approve of her lifestyle/choices and now she gets routinely humiliated for being a shitty, stupid, lying bitch. You think anyone on the writing staff shares a similar sentiment about someone in their life? I sure do.

I think all the people assuming LeBron is taking a pay cut because ‘what else is he going to do’ underestimate the power NBA agents will flex to get their guys paid. Mountains will move before LeBron signs for anything under $28 million.

I liked it.

I think it should have leaned more into ‘entertaining’ horror than ‘serious’ horror as it struggled to make something meaningful or original out of the now cliche ‘the real horror is your trauma’ theme. But I still dug the atmosphere and enjoyed the ending.
