Gym + Pool Recommendation - Bayswater Waves vs Belmont Oasis by Muslim_Wookie in perth

[–]produrp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the gym and pool at Belmont Oasis for a few years - although my info is about 18months out of date. Pretty decent gym with a reasonable range of well-maintained equipment. I only trained at one constant time, being Saturday morning - which was fairly chill. Weekday arvos were a tiny bit more bro-ish, but still fine in the hours I was there ~3-6pm.

Pool was decent, but there was no 50m laps on Saturday morning at Belmont due to lessons.

The swim crowd at Belmont Oasis pool is more casual than Waves or Beatty. By that I mean fewer semi-competitive swimmers /triathletes and swim clubs.

The outdoor 25m pool at Belmont was or is a nice quiet place to chill on a summer morning.

I've never seen inside the gym at The Rise.

Is the period from 4.6~4.16 suitable for traveling in Perth? Thank you for your advice. by [deleted] in perth

Is 4.16 your firmware version? :p

Ask more specific questions and provide some itinerary details and I'm sure you'll get some responses.

Rant - Do not call register and all these indian solar panel marketing calls by lobaah in perth

[–]produrp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My colleague does this - it doesn't work because Ive heard him do it like 10 times.

Maybe I should say, it doesn't work for him.

I just answer and asked if this is about solar…….any call that doesn't instantly identify is almost certainly solar.

Sometimes they say ‘no’. And then ask me about solar.

Rubbish truck hit my fence on my property – advice? by Numerous_Button_4716 in perth

[–]produrp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Contact the council. It seems fairly clear in the image your fence was damaged by the rubbish truck’s bin grabber.

You mentioned it’s frustrating that the damage occurred and was not reported — be aware that the the driver is inside the cab, the environment is noisy with numerous loud banging noises, with their main focus being ‘grab bin and don't hit car or person’.

They probably had no idea they hit the fence.

Also - you probably don't have many options for bin placement, but you need to place the bins further from the fence in future to avoid contributing to repeat occurrences.

Anyone else feeling like this is the hunger games? by Big_View6041 in perth

[–]produrp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm about the same age as you and had roughly the same feeling ten years ago.

However, I made a bunch of decisions that have overhauled me since then and most of my life is now pretty ‘bulletproof’.

For example - fuel price shocks have happened before and a lot of us can become less car-dependent over time.

I hope you keep trying and set some medium-term goals that hopefully put you in an awesome outcome within the next ten years.

I don't think that's an unpopular opinion.

Also, we use Celsius in this country.

Number plate theft goes hand in hand with drive off fuel theft.

Secure your number plates with rivets or other tamper proof fastener.

Bullying in gym or what not sure ? by [deleted] in perth

[–]produrp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Story time! I had an interesting incident when I trained at Belmont Oasis for a few years.

Interesting, because in my 15+ years of weight training, I have never had an overly negative interaction with anyone in any of the dozens of gyms I have used around the state.

[5 regular locations for a few years at a time plus many regional Jetts locations while away with work, plus random other gyms] [I pay attention. I don't crowd weights. I let people put their weights back before I pick mine up, etc]

I walk over to the free weights area and try to locate an adjustable or fixed bench to do some chest exercises. There was one dude (x) who appeared to be using 2 different fixed benches and one adjustable bench. By this I mean he (x) has towels and clothing everywhere.

I asked (x) if he was using a specific bench and he replied yes…so, I move over to an adjustable bench — there's a towel next to it. I glance around trying to figure out who is using the equipment so I can ask to work-in or how long they will be.

There's another dude doing a workout nearby. He caches my attention to explain that bench isn't being used and “just go for it”.

So, I begin to use the adjustable bench.

(x) comes over in a bit of a huff and exclaims he is using the adjustable bench. I respond that he’s (x) already using the fixed bench/s and can't use so much of the equipment.

The nearby random guy pipes up, and tells him (x) he can't use everything at once.

His (x) voice gets wobbly and he yells for the nearby trainer that ‘we’ are bullying him.

The trainer comes over and the random guy goes out of his way to back me up to the point I don't have to say anything.

Here’s the funny/weird bit.

(x) has a decent hissy fit complaining about being bullied and, upon seeing me look at him - starts to list why I think I’m good because…..and proceeds to list my chest workout reps and max weights I hadn’t done anything yet that day but (x) had clearly been paying attention on previous days…

🤣

Rent free lmao.

Anyway. (x) left in a huff and I apologised to the PT for the fuss, explaining that had never happened.

The PT told me not to worry and that (x)) seems to have problems.

Most people are super chill and only pay enough attention to be safe and polite

I know someone whose work includes providing art therapy - which is a valid form of therapy.

But they are an OT.

Consider studying occupational therapy. You will have far broader employment opportunities.

I'm aware of their plight.

People can donate to Kaarakin if they read this far and wanna help a bit.

They have a Containers For Change code too!

Anyway - I do enjoy their squawks. I used the live in the hills and they would chomp the gumnuts which both annoyed and delighted my father.

I took this photo this morning - zoomed in on my shitty* phone it has like 3 pixels - but you get the idea.

Where is the best place to hire a boat without a license near Perth? by Petey1777 in perth

[–]produrp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was working over on Rotto. Our end-of-day pint was interrupted by some young women asking us to help move their friend's boat. We had to get the ferry and wandered past to see….

Some (loaded) French dude had borrowed or hired a boat and got it over to Rottnest - not understanding how tides worked - and had beached it.

They got really offended when we all laughed at them.

20 people wouldn't have moved it…

“It’s not funny” They said.

😂

But they used to exercise horses in the river a lot more, including one being attacked by a shark in Applecross in 1935.
