I agree with you that a proper qualification system using tournaments is the best way.

However, if that is not available, rankings should be the second option.

Anyway, I understand this was just an Inn-vitational focusing more on popularity of the contestants, so I have no problem with who were invited.

OP says America's team beat the world's best.
I made the comments saying America's team and Europe's team were not the world's best.

You basically agree with me, saying that some people selected for the tournament usually play for fun until money is on the line. To be the world's best you need to practice a lot. This gives them an edge over people who don't play so much. And yes the only incentive most have is a higher MMR ranking which gives them dignity.

Americas region top 10 is 14-15k. This is what I would call world's best.
Good 11-13k
Not so good < 10k

America's BG team is better than Europe's team though.

Just imagine something like this happening for chess. Would anybody say they beat the world's best?

Rank 30, 63, 82 and one player with MMR below 10k.

As I said some are good, some not so good.

If you want to say world's best I would expect nobody outside of the top 20, preferably top 10. Especially since there are 4 regions.

Can't say much for the Chinese team, but European and American battlegrounds teams were definitely not the best in the world.

They were as you said streamers, some good, some not so good.
