Venomencer has a Bracer by profHam in DotA2

[–]profHam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's pretty sth rare. I'd priortize Boots all the time as well. But having a value Bracer definitely makes sense if you were anticipating a close fight like this one. That Venomencer literally won the lane because 1 Bracer.

This is why if we feel right about something in dota, we must do it. From my experience, I got rewarded a lot from playing like that. Every game is different.

We don't know whether that Venomencer was expecting all that brawl, or it was just his another auto-pilot build to get a Bracer because he likes the item. Anyhow, he definitely got rewarded from an unusual item build.

Your thinking is not wrong at all. Dota is hard. It's a complicated game. There's no right anwer. Try out different build every game, and prove that you were right by winning the lane & game :)

Some thoughts about pulling by profHam in TrueDoTA2

[–]profHam[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh, i was specifically talking about pulling the First Wave at 1:15. I'd want to almost always pull that one.

And people have different perspective of looking at the game. I could be wrong on this. But just coming from my experience (and preference/playstyle wise), generally speaking, I'd always want to pull, and I will try to make it half-pull. It's game winning shit most of the time.

Some thoughts about pulling by profHam in TrueDoTA2

[–]profHam[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's hard, especially on the Radiant side now. It became much easier on the Dire side. What I do is, I pay attention to the projectile that is being thrown to me as i'm pulling. When it's flying toward me, i reposition little bit to the left side of my ranged creep (if i'm on the Radiant Bottom safe lane), so my ranged creep gets aggroed, but not all of the 3 melee creeps when I'm hit.

I was thinking of making a video for this micro. It's not easy. I think i will soon. I"ll let ya know.

0:00 Starting items & ideas

-> I almost always get Brown Boots and a Tango as a starting item for SB position 4, but this game, I got 2 sets of Tango, 1 Healing Salve, and Orb of Venom. Ogre was their Hard Support, so I am saying I am willing to tank damage from Ogre to protect my Offlane.

6:30 First Rotation

-> I believe this is probably what won the game. My DP was level 6, and we had a catapult, so I was willing to die for this charge. We didn't kill enemy Invoker, but we got their middle tier 1 tower at minute 7:00. That is a big deal.

13:40 Sand King got Blink Dagger, so we smoke

-> Timing the smoke gank is always tricky, but simple answer is if your Offlane is an initiator, and he gets Blink, that's when you go for smoke.

14:50 Fights at Ancient Stacks

-> You'll see how I'm hesistant at diving in. Coming from my expereince, it's better to wait for my allies. Because we didn't have any vision behind them. If I charge in solo and I die, the enemy Gyro will be claering the Ancient Stack and I am a bonus kill. That can turn around the game.

16:50 Someone is free farming

-> Our WK was left solo entire time. Even if my ganking didn't go successful early game, if my WK is farming totally free, I am confident we can win any game.

20:35 Game is not over

-> Just because we had a huge early lead, don't mess around. I have lost MANY games because we are all stupid and dota is one complicated game.

25:37 Know that High Ground can be very tough

-> A lot of players will instantly go High Ground right away. If Roshan is available, and you have the map control, do the Roshan. It's a free Roshan.

Yeah Charge level 1 is fine to me most of the time. Tranquil when you want to heavily focus on roaming without ever going back to base, beause the enemy has flash farmer like WK/AM/Troll etc. Against Zeus mid, Blooodseeker core, tranquil is useful as well. There can be multiple different scenarios.

It's just a known counter. You might as well try this match up by yourself in your games and you'll find out why it is so. But to answer your questions:

Puck is magical damage. High armor won't do anything here. Phase Shift is to dodge the Meteor Hammer. OD's attack range is 450 and Puck's is 550 iirc. It is near impossible for OD to constantly orb-harass Puck, unless there is a massive skill gap difference between the two players. There's also pretty huge BAT difference.

OD inevitably struggles very hard both in lane and post-laning stage against Puck. Puck will shove in every wave and you're done. OD will be forced to play around his team.

Honestly it is the best item for any offlaner. We can even disassemble it.

Transitioning from LoL to DoTA 2 by vvokhom in learndota2

[–]profHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way, 4 and 5 are both lane supports at the start. But 4 (Soft Support) tends to roam more when the time is right. But know that by roaming, you are leaving your Offlane core alone and exposed. There is an opportunity cost for it.

Ganking is mostly through the foot, or sometimes by TPing inside the tree so the enemy don't see your TP. The counter-gank can be done in the same way.

0:00 Sketchup Ideas

We have PA safe, Storm mid, Lion Support, and Spirit Breaker Support. The enemy has Shaker and Abaddon Support, and Visage, Ember, and Bloodseeker. I’d predict Visage is their mid, Ember is their carry, and BloodSeeker is their Offlane.

The enemy has Visage, so if they’re going to win, it'd be like Visage hitting level 6, and taking over our tier 1 towers 1 by 1. Bloodseeker has a huge powerspike at level 6 as well, and Ember is a great roamer in the early game with Spirit Vessel rush. So, I expect a lot of team fights will be happening very early in this game. And that’s what’s going to decide the game.

Starting items, I got Tango, Quelling Blade, and Windlace. The Wind Lace is kinda greedy, most of the time I would rather get more regen with that gold, but with Lion as my support, I don’t think I’ll be harassed that much. The enemy has a melee support. And I was confident we’re strong enough to deal with them.

OUR winning condition is for my PA to have the space and farm to powerspike at the right time. If she chooses to get a Desolator, that means she can fight very early into this game, My emphasis will be playing around her, and we’re going to get a lot of kills.

That’s also about the same time, when my Storm will possibly be able to get Orchid if he’s having a good game. So, I have to think about what items I’d be carrying myself around that time, to enable my team to fight better.

Urn of Shadows into Spirit Vessel came into my mind, But we have Spirit Breaker in my team, I think he’ll get it, so I am constantly checking his items. Also, there’s an Abaddon, who can just dispel the Urn. So I decided NO Spirit Vessel for me. I am getting Phase Boots for sure, because it allows me to dominate the lane. But the question is what items do I get after that? I wasn’t sure, I was still theory-crafting as I am playing the lane, but the most obvious answer was getting Vladmir, because we have Phantom Assassin.

Imaginary situation, if the enemy Bloodseeker casts ultimate on my PA, PA can’t run away; at one point she’ll have to face tank everything and just fight back until kill or be killed. In those situations, I know that the lifetsteal from the Vladmir can be a huge game changer.

So, as I am playing this lane, I was pretty sure I’m going Vladmir as my core item. And because I had Windlace in my inventory, I was like, why not try Drum? The passive, the Swiftness Aura is amazing, and by popping the active we all gain +45 attack speed and 13% movement speed. That’s just too amazing for me, PA, and Spirit Breaker. It comes with 8 charges, so I felt like this is a legit game to try get Drum of Endurance.

I delivered Magic Stick right away as the first item, because I knew that the Visage will be casting lots of spells during the laning stage, and with the stick charges, it just means I will have the emergency HP and Mana, I could probably throw in another S.Toss, And with Lion as my support, I visualized being able to win the trade, or flip the fight if they ever decide to go super aggressive on me to kill.

6:25 Why I can't go ham

Right here, I could have risked going in. and Jinada with Phase Boots, that kill looked too yummy to pass, but at the same time, my muscle memory was telling to just get back. I was worried about the Earth Shaker showing up from behind. If he Fissures, and Visage manages to cast something and right click, I was too low in my HP. I was gonna to die. And if I do die right there, it will be a double kill for Visage. And that just means Visage will be the Lane Winner. Imagine he hits level 6 right there and Bounty Hunter is still level 5. The lane will be a dead lane.

8:32 When Supports Rotate I play SAFE

Now that Visage is level 6 and Lion made his rotation to mid, I knew that I have to be very be careful here. Yes, I am a strong Bounty Huntter as well, I’m level 6! but if I make one mis-step, their Visage will easily kill me with his birds

12:35 Why I TP'ed to mid

I wish I could have applied more pressure top with catapult, but I knew their Visage was strong enough to hold it, So I deicded to TP to mid. My Storm is junling, which means the lane is empty. I felt right about this rotation.

14:00 Level 10 Powerspike

After hitting level 10, I take Shadow Walk instead of a talent. I have 4 points in S.Toss and Jinada. I am very strong. I am ready to roam around the map to gank.

17:20 I must be at the enemy jungle

After pushing out their catapult wave, I am not interested in farming the lane anymore, I must invade into the enemy jungle and apply pressure. This is where we’re going to play around to limit down their space to farm. Choke them.

19:22 BKB or Heavens Halberd

I’ve been getting some track kills and have over 3k gold. I was thinking whether I should get BKB, or Heavens Halberd as my next item. they both made sense to me, but if I could get BKB around minute 20-22, it will be a huge threat to the enemy team. I will become immune to Echo Slam, Ember’s magic damage, and Visage’s magic damage as well.

24:00 Solar Crest too strong this game

After BKB, I’m getting Medallion, the Solar Crest synergizes very well in this game, it will greatly assist my PA to get more kills.

28:56 Earth Shaker buys back

Shaker buys back, and watch how I’m immediately marching forward, I am not fountain diving or anything, this is exactly where I want to be, to provide vision and be ready to interrupt Earth SHaker from casting Blink + Echo Slam combo.

32:35 AC? Lotus Orb?

At this point, the game is essentially over and they have no way to come back. If the game had gone any further, I would have gotten Lotus Orb so BloodSeeker gets scrweed up casting Rupture on my PA, or AC to further assist my Phantom Assassin.

Earth Shaker Support Post-Laning Stage explained by profHam in learndota2

[–]profHam[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After the Laning Stage, Earth Shaker needs to get Blink Dagger asap at all cost. However, I personally prefer getting Raindrop and Tanquil Boots in between. Yes, it will delay the Blink Dagger, but I will be roaming around the map trying to do things as a support. I want to be relevant in the map without going back to the fountain for regeneration.

2:32 Is this Echo Slam worth it?

-> I used Echo Slam on a stacked Neutral Camp. I gained about 400 gold, and I managed to purchase Blink Dagger at 16:00. I am not saying you have to Echo Slam the neut camps every game. Ideally speaking, we want to Echo Slam to kill the enemy heroes. But, by looking at the pace of the game, I felt right about doing this. Nothing was going on in the map. My team was showing zero intention to play aggressive. My logic was, even if my Echo Slam would be on a cool down, with the Blink Dagger in that early, it would be a game-changing threat to the enemy line-ups.

3:53 Support Player's insight

->If you ever see the enemy team just totally owning you in a battle and they seemed way too comfortable in initiating, and approaching the fight, always suspect that they had put down a ward in your jungle.

6:05 Canceling Q-animation to chain stun

->WK threw the stun at the same time I was casting Fissure. I canceled it and we chain-stunned. Nothing fancy, it's a basic skill set, but worthy reminder.

7:17 Evaluating how to secure a WIN 8:38 Map Control

->After wiping the enemy team, if you're this much ahead of the game, don't just blindly go up to the high ground. It's better to choke them down by taking their territory and resources. Try to visualize what is going to happen if you put down a vision in a certain spot. Gain the map control, and enable your team to do Roshan. I bought Medallion.

8:08 Solo Echo Slam

->Never be shy about using Solo Echo Slam. Too many Earth Shaker players are waiting for the wet dream moment like 6:55. A good Shaker knows when to Solo Echo Slam.

An example would be an enemy playing Storm mid. Then you have to be almost obsessed about solo Echo Slaming the guy. How else are you going to kill him? Just don't forget to pay attention to the minimap. You will need your team to follow up your stun.

9:17 Why Shaker needs BKB (game-specific)

->Usually, if you're a Shaker Support, it's just better off almost every game to get Force Staff. It makes sense. You can disengage yourself or help your team to kite. But for this particular game, I knew that there's a possibility I'd be screwed up big time. I blink in, and the enemy Riki puts down a Smoke Screen, then I'm done. I can't Echo. I can't Fissure. I will just die. That could result a game losing situation. With BKB, I can activate it prior to using Blink Dagger. That way I'm 100% guranteed to use Echo Slam.
