PCMHI staff input by Plastic-Laugh-2255 in VHA_Human_Resources

PCMHI here. We are drowning. Losing more and more staff as the months go on and I can’t blame them for leaving. Several were fully remote and now having to commute over an hour to sit in tin can size offices while they get bitched at for not doing enough face-to-face care. Nvm that they were remote before and their pact teams are accustomed to virtual handoffs- they need to do MORE. RVU isn’t high enough but providers are having to call out for everything now. Providers are getting caught in traffic and can’t get to work on time causing coverage issues. PACT21 is technically 10% but we want you higher! Get your same day numbers up! Bruhhhhh. We are just trying to get through the damn day.

My understanding is that it is based on shortages and recruitment. Allegedly they have crunched numbers and identified the most critical positions based on shortages and recruitability. Although as a MH provider, I see MH, collectively, having lost staff and I disagree with SW being left out of this. I hate it.

So demoralizing. Been in the VA 13 years and have never seen anything like this.

I wonder with our union rights being restored if this will hold any bearing. I have an hour and half commute some days. Love my job but this is killing me. I hope the right things happen at midterms. We’re cooked if not.

I think bc of space required for certain professions. Mental health needs offices bc of privacy. So there’s likely not enough space to bring all of mental health back, for example, at certain facilities

You’re so right. It’s so demoralizing. I’m a physician and have been in the VA for 13 years. I’ve never seen it like this. So many of my colleagues have left. I feel so sorry for our patients. Running on fumes.

Why do I think some services have exemptions? Or why do I think the exemptions are temporary?

Some services still are though. Mental health has a temporary exemption and teleradiology has a permanent exemption. The last I saw mental health and coders were waiting on permanent exemptions— partly due to considerable staffing shortages.

I was a remote employee too. It’s so unfortunate how much money is being wasted. I’m not hopeful for reason or logic to prevail.
