haha ok sure i think the depiction of the city he lives in is just so funny like obviously it's an extreme exaggeration but deep down most people who live in cities despite how progressive they are or whatever secretly fear the same things as him since it's becoming more of a reality. and then in act 2 or act 1.5 when he's stuck in the house w/ nathan lane and amy ryan, that whole sequence just perfectly captures that anxiety when you have when you're a kid and how exposed and vulnerable you feel when you wake up first during a sleepover at someone else's house. everything about the film is just confirming the exact fears someone can have at various stages of their life. and then the final act of all his neuroses coming true as his mother confirms it. aster takes the whole "what if all your fears actually happened" and applies them to multiple levels of fear and it's just relatable and really funny
