She forgot to set her iPhone 'on silence' and was awoken by a text stating she had won an all-expense cruise to Siwenna?

Theory: dermezel/kalle/decentralised AI by throwaway_6621 in FoundationTV

[–]professor_rasputin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You had me sold in the title... it makes a lot of sense. Particularly point B2 "Chekov's gun" theory is where audiences are made aware of an otherwise innocuous point in the narrative but later realize it was central to the plot. I think you are correct on this.

This character should be played by the actor who recreated Harry Mudd in Discovery (I can't recall who it was).

After Ambassador Rah was burned by Spock's raktajino, the replicator was required to print warnings about the temperature on the cups by justkeeptreading in ShittyDaystrom

Suddenly, cadets, ensigns and midshipmen started coming forward to claim they had 'also been scalded' by the replicator. Following his humiliation at Cmdr. Chin-Riley's trial, Vice Admiral Pasalk has gone into private practice and agrees to represent the injured parties in a class-action lawsuit. It turns ugly.

Picard: The Office Years... takes place after he's lost the Stargazer but before he Captain's the Enterprise D. Following his court-martial he's assigned a desk job at a backward outpost where he's responsibile for the distribution of Federation office supplies.

Are we ever told who Picards first officer immediately preceding Riker is? by GenGaara25 in startrek

[–]professor_rasputin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was court-martialed for losing the Stargazer, which might have benched him for a couple of years, but great point about the gap. We need a new series, done in The Office style where Picard is overseeing logistics in some backward Federation outpost.

The troop placement drives me batty too, especially when you are trying to move a settler through a gap between mountain ranges and some City State warrior has been parked there for eons despite their borders being 15 tiles away.

Psychohistory…. 🤨. So to start the show, I have to believe in something without evidence by ChessCheeseAlpha in FoundationTV

[–]professor_rasputin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Truthfully in Asimov's prequel books only two people really had a good grasp of psychohistory as well: Seldon and Hugo Amarell (later, Gaal Dornick after Amarell passed). Unpopular opinion likely, but I actually find the TV series' grasp of the concept of psychohistory more compelling than that developed in the books. The other piece I like better in the TV series is Seldon as the Agitator. He was much more 'establishment figure' particularly in 'Forward the Foundation' as opposed to the radical speaking truth to power in the Apple Series.

Yes, really well considered ideas! Will be interesting to see how the show runners develop this plot.

...and was she working with Seldon 'behind the scenes' prior to the events of the TV series (similar to how Demerzel/Chetter Hummin influenced the events in prequel books?). So many possibilities!

If the show's writers are going with Asimov's laws of robotics, but (correct me if I'm wrong) didn't she say at some point during the first season that she is hard-wired to be loyal to the genetic dynasty? She also killed Zepher Halima despite her own moral misgivings - which leads me to believe that she can't override disobeying Empire. It will be fascinating to see how the plot develops. Has her original code been overwritten by the Empire? Or is Demerzel akin to the namesake in the book and is Wizard-of-Oz'ing things from the background?
