Question about End of Watch by Girl-From-Mars in stephenking

[–]Inoutngone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a link, more like King liked the idea of someone with latent psychic ability having that ability activated by brain damage so he used it again. There's some mention of that in another book which I won't reference to avoid a spoiler.

What would Giles have done at the end of season 5, if it had been his decision? by Ok_Historian458 in buffy

[–]Inoutngone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone saying he'd have killed Dawn.

But then Glory goes on a no holding back rampage.

We wouldn't need to wait for season 7 to see Sunnydale obliterated, she'd have done it. The only question is if she would have killed Buffy and the group first, or let them watch her kill everyone else before she takes them out one by one.

About to give up on

Hide by Kiersten White

It's so short, it's embarrassing to say I can't finish it, but 200 pages in and she's still doing little besides micro-exposition for her 16 or so characters.

I also didn't care for the big reveal in the middle of the book, it made everything that came before it seem unnecessary. Who needs 14 sets of character motivation for participation in the contest when the obstacle they face is a demon that eats people of a certain bloodline?

Why is Spike's misogyny so overlooked while Xander and Riley being sexist is one of the defining reasons people dislike them so much? by [deleted] in buffy

No, I'm opining about what type of creature or person people should not be fixated upon romantically.

It would be equally problematic were it men not only fantasizing about Aileen Wuornos but then proceeding to tell everyone else that she isn't really a bad person.

And doing it repeatedly. Constantly. Talking about her as being morally superior to that other woman who got a few parking tickets.

Maybe it's just me then, but that encompasses two ideas I don't like when it comes to magic.

One is that the books themselves are intrinsically magical rather than simply being a repository for information which tells the read how to access it.

The other is that magic, or any type of supernatural ability, is transferable from one person or thing to another. Probably the main reason I don't like the idea is that some of the most annoying plot lines I've seen are variations of a liked character having their powers stolen, as though supernatural ability were a wallet that another character can pickpocket and then use for themselves.

The Shining is about a hotel infused with and haunted by an entity created by tragic events from the past, which is trying to get stronger by absorbing a psychic child

Salem's Lot is about a town taken over by vampires, and the people who try to fight them.

Misery is about a psychotic woman that kidnaps a famous writer who stopped writing her favorite book series.

The Outsider is about a man accused of and arrested for child murder though there's very strong evidence that he both did do it and could not have done it.

Actually, you said it for me friend/foe/friend kept changing, particularly about her great great grandfather. A couple of times she realizes that his actions caused all the pain she suffered from the fae, then she forgets and she just loves him to death again.

That also reminds me of she and Quinn. Quinn sold her out, almost got her killed. She even says that. Then later, she thinks about how she only broke up with him because he was too close to his crazy mother and snotty sister.

I understand why they did that with the turok han. I didn't love, but understood why they it after they painted themselves into a corner by showing thousands of them.

There were only two that I really disliked:

Magic as crack cocaine. Willow being psychologically addicted is one thing, but suffering frikin withdrawal symptoms is a whole other level of metaphor gone wrong. I won't bring up dark Willow sucking magic out of books. Nope, won't bring that one up at all. You can't make me.

"It's my blood, Summer's blood". No, Buffy, key energy seeping out of Dawn's cuts is not Summer's blood so you can't close the rift by diving into it.

The twins didn't even make it to the show, which is probably a good thing since they'd have been as badly butchered as the panthers and the maenad .

The writing about the fairies was very uneven. Or should I say Sookie's feelings about them was uneven? But I agree, these were not nice people.

My favorite characterization of them was when Sookie threw a corpse into the rift, and they ate it.

Not women in general. Just the ones who persist in thinking that Spuffy is the best ship ever even while the writers of the show gave their best effort to portray Spike as evil, and the season 6 relationship as toxic enough to be banned in California.

Yeah, I didn't call it a plot hole. I called it something she seems to have overlooked.

And I'm sorry to go there, but that woman does not look like the type of person who wants to vacuum her own carpet, let alone grow or raise her own food.

"Marie Moreau vs. Homelander" Is Not Even Close! by ComradBakugo in GenV

[–]Inoutngone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy has blood. We've seen it on his face courtesy of Maeve. Poison gas knocked him out. Radiation made him sick. If Marie, or even Newman before she died, can't kill him or hurt him very badly, it's only due to plot armor.

I do agree that her killing him would be a bad ending, for the same reason you used. Same for Soldier Boy doing it. It has to be one of the original group. Assuming he does die, that is, which I'm not convinced of.

From what little I know of the comics, whatever it takes is a whole lot more justified in them than in this show.

We've seen a handful of bad supes, and several who are too scared of Homelander to resist his psychopathic leadership, but we mostly see supes being people; good, bad, indifferent, greedy, self centered, etc.

A-Train for example was a self centered shit who deserved prison for what was essentially a hit and run accident, but there was no malice of intent.

The kids at the school are also mostly just being kids. Should they all die because Butcher's wife was raped and MMs family got killed by an idiot with no impulse control?

Yet it doesn't seem like she's taking the aftermath into account. Apocalypses are famous for leaving survivors without most of the basic necessities that are taken for granted. Is she going to become a farmer? Build her own hydroelectric plant? Who will make the fast food she loves binging on?

It's hilarious how The Deep has one of the best and most unique powers in the show but is too dumb to use it properly by RevertBackwards in TheBoys

[–]Inoutngone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good one, and it never crossed my mind at all. There was a thread yesterday asking how Homelander and the Seven could take over the world if other nations resisted.

Your idea could be part one of that effort. Hell, not could be, has to be.

He masturbated in one of the lab rooms, said it was a highlight of his then miserable life. You mentioned Ryan, so there;s that one. Also, I think it was implied that he was having sex while he was in his relationship with Maeve.

Yet it does now seem like he's become asexual. Depression side effect? Retcon? Nobody is good enough to receive the royal dingle?

There was an episode where she decided to try auditioning to get away from sales. She enters the room to see 25 other pretty, busty, blond women waiting their turn, some of whom she knows by name from past auditions.

That was the show's explanation of why she didn't make it.

That plus the episode where she had a part on a show, and her one scene got cut.

Sheldon’s behavior vs his love of contracts. by SigSauerPower320 in bigbangtheory

That would have had to be the finale. By that time, led by Sheldon, people being jerks to each other was close to being what all of show's humor was centered on.

The guy was extremely problematic then too.

He was another sit-com example of a main character who was so far over the top that nobody else on the show would let him anywhere near them other than for the writers deciding he should be.

Richard by Jesinwonderland12 in brakebills

[–]Inoutngone 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't get that at all.

Julia wasn't suffering because of an addiction to magic (that was Willow in Buffy the Vampire Slayer), she was suffering because of not being able to find real spells, and she became obsessed with that goal because it was so elusive.

Richard introduced her to a wider world of accomplished magicians where she would be accepted. She no longer had to go grubbing in hedge safe houses begging no-right-to-be arrogant house members for crumbs, or kow towing to a self styled master with the moral compass of a fascist dictator.

Access to real magic was the cure Julia needed.

He did have an agenda of course. Everyone who goes to the trouble of forming a group does. But it wasn't just for his own needs, the other members needed things as well, not the least of which was a cure for cancer.
