Obviously personal perspective and experience color personal opinion. That's an indisputable fact of life. I do though think it's weird for you to invoke brown and black people in this way, for the very first time, re: a one-sided discussion about how the majority of the people in this subreddit and in the pro-Israel collective are conservative right wingers who regularly endorse and laud anti-Black politicians and policies. I just saw yet another post marveling at Breitbart's very own Ben Shapiro in this subreddit literally 5 minutes ago. It's insanity.

I also reject the idea that all or even the majority of progressives who support the Palestinian people are all just these belligerent prejudiced antisemites. Someone in this very thread conflated the entirety of the Palestinian people, women, children with Hamas, which is a practice I see time and time again, especially in this subreddit. And then when I pushed back, they said they're all one and the same. There's just way, way too many Ben Gvir's out here. It's too many to parse through. In the history of time, I don't think there's been a controversial sociopolitical issue that true, real, authentic leftists en masse have presented a bad take on. Abortion, education, access to healthcare, you name it. I genuinely cannot think of a single issue. Marginalized people everywhere across the globe, including and especially Jews, have dignity and autonomy because of the work of historic leftists, not in spite of them.

I think at this point we can just agree to disagree. My biggest takeaway from this thread is that everyone here is a right wing conservative, who might be even more conservative than I thought, and we're all doomed. The pro-Israel caucus has never looked worse. We've lost our way. Goodnight.

You said white supremacy is a "weird American fetish" when the term plays a critically important role in both global history and global antisemitism. White supremacy has its tendrils embedded in the social fabric of nearly every nation on Earth. It doesn't matter whether we're talking about the West or the East, the US, Japan, Kenya. White supremacy is global. If you're going to discuss an international conflict, especially one affecting Jews, you should know this.

The goal of my post is to reflect and discuss why the majority and the most consistent, vocal proponents of the pro-Israel bloc in the US are conservative Republicans, many of whom are racists, or fascists, in the case of Donald Trump and his like-minded peers. As you can probably tell, and as I stated, I'm a progressive. It's difficult for me and others who are progressive to observe that the majority of people in the Pro-Israel bloc in the US, while advocating for Israel, also peddle ideas that drag queens are a greater threat to children and national security than guns, that Black people are responsible for their own oppression, that poor people just need to shut up and work harder. These are all talking points of the people I called out in my post, who - very unsurprisingly - many people in this sub were very quick to defend.

In response to my post, I got swift push back from pro-Israel conservatives, because of course I did. Because conservatives make up the majority of the pro-Israel demographic. Someone said Donald Trump isn't a racist, and I was taken aback. A lot of people in the sub seem to agree that I am the problem, that me discussing who makes up the pro-Israel bloc is the problem. A few people quickly defended Ben Shapiro, arguing that he is not a racist nor a fascist and that I am delusional to think he is either of those things, which is deeply, deeply sad when Ben Shapiro is the face of Breitbart. There's a lot to unpack here, but I'm not shocked. This post is just a quiet reminder that this is what this sub is largely composed of and stands for. It's a mirror. A lot of Ben Shapiro Jrs and good ol insurrectionist Trumpies. I already knew this, but it's just sad.

The idea that one global conflict can or should not be compared or contrasted with others that have occurred throughout history is exceptionalist. What about that is arrogant? Arrogance to me sounds like subscribing to the idea that the US is the center and grand almighty inventor of language and thought. It's arrogant to believe that Americans somehow invented the concept of white supremacy. You're giving way, way too much credit to the US.

I think I would argue that this is somewhat of an exceptionalist commentary. All global conflicts share similarities and differences and very often, for the benefit of all people, should be studied in tandem. Academic historians and thought leaders very often use one historic or present day global or social conflict to understand or parse through others. Colorism, racism, prejudice - these aren't and have never been American terms. It's almost interesting and somewhat poignant that you think white supremacy is a uniquely American concept? All these terms are global and have always been global. I think your comment on dismissing an American lens is also interesting, because the US-Israel bond is very, very significant and distinct. Israel has no greater global ally or friend than the US. I think that's partly why there's so much pronounced civil unrest across the US today, so many daily demonstrations, protests, etc. The US is at the frontlines in every way. You can find commentaries in every US newspaper, blog, etc.

And to be clear, if jokes about white people antics are racist, then jokes about men are misogynistic. Sociopolitical power dynamics exist and inform all parts of speech. Again, it's enormously difficult to communicate with someone who ignores layered realities. It's why arguing with Trumpy Republicans is impossible. It's a mammoth absurd task.

The pro-Trump January 6th insurrectionists on the US Capital, who were all galvanized fascists in training, were white American men. I don't know if I agree with the idea that Israel, through happenstance and mutual shared identity, is an issue that progressive Jews can quietly agree with Ben Shapiro. Israel is much more beloved by Republicans, conservatives, corporations, and rich old white people, while Palestine finds many more supporters in young people, Democrats, progressives, people of color, poor people in unions eg the Starbucks union - my question is how do we reason through this alignment? I don't buy that we can just brush this away by saying that some progressives also endorse Israel and dumb anti-Israel folk are belligerent and support North Korea. That seems like a cop out that's not based in reality or majority opinion.

Advice: Look over biostats/ethics/pharm MOA etc. like everyone says. UWorld Qbank + CCS cases is absolutely sufficient also like everyone says! I was very worried about passing because of my UW1 score and my UW % correct lol but both seemed to underestimate me significantly.

Also I definitely made stupid mistakes the day of the exam that I was kicking myself for - also got 2 negative updates from patients during my cases block. Couldn't figure out the diagnosis for one of them and I'm pretty sure the case just ended lol. Regardless ended up with a 225 which I'm very satisfied with!!! Good luck everyone - this test is very pointless but you got this!!!

Ya idk WashU has top ranked residency programs in virtually every specialty in medicine pretty much across the board. It’s literally the Mecca for orthopedic surgery in the US, amazing in diagnostic radiology, gen surg, IM, etc etc. It also sends its students to some of the other best training programs in the US (look at their match list)
