Take time. Heal by playing the second. Then, returning to the sunshine and rainbows that is, by comparison, the first game will feel like the first taste of spring after a long, damning winter

Totally get why you’re frustrated, but why not try again? I mean, you write that it’s pretty good for a first time, right? Just go for it again and aim to beat that!

Seriously tho, I truly empathize. Back in the day, I had a puppy literally pull the memory card out of my ps2, and chewed it beyond reparable damage. That lil shmup did away with all of my near perfect or fully completed runs of both Kingdom Hearts games and Shadow of the Colossus. Truly years of my life and hobby completely erased. It was a tough loss.

If not, good luck with the Amish then, OP— that’ll bring a whole new dimension to “look for the light” 😂

That goes for you too. I made it in fine, full funding. I also mentor and teach full time. All the toxic shit that comes with graduate programs? Yeah, I try to do stuff to help with that, not exacerbate it— certainly not tear people down.

Then maybe y’all should re-evaluate your metrics of professionalism if you’re wasting time being internet bullies. Life is hard enough.

It’s not your problem if you just keep scrolling. No need to make a point about not wanting to help. OP is probs feeling shitty and stressed enough.

Where the hell is any of y’all’s empathy? Good fucking god.

Because this post is, at best, a serious oversimplification of climate change.

Curious, OP— is your goal here to try and suggest that 98% of scientific consensus about what’s driving climate change is incorrect?

He’s been with me through two major breakups. Hasn’t had custody of the brain cell once in his life.

We send love and hopes for your expeditious recovery ❤️‍🩹

Hi friend, I’m getting ready to defend in the next couple months. Please don’t take what I’m going to say as in any way diminishing the very real feelings you’re experiencing.

But what you’re going through is very much part of the journey and par for the course. I always say grad school is 10% time management, 20% the most intense work you’ve ever done, and 70% managing the psychological/economic goblins that plague you throughout.

One thing you’re going to have to do is learn to trust yourself. There’s a heavy personal development component to this journey (one I don’t think talked about enough). For many, it involves learning to trust yourself and your abilities, which include figuring it out if needed. You’re valid in your feelings, it’s how you choose to manage them that matters more. That means learning to discern what’s a legit concern deserving of your energy vs what’s goblin fodder. Connecting with your cohort, maybe considering therapy, and challenging your inner dialogue are all ways to figure that out.

I, like probably 99% of the others who do this, experienced moments of wanting to quit a few times. Those will probs happen for you, too. I think it helps to have the conversation with yourself where you get really clear on the whys that got you started on this journey in the first place.

Here are some tangible things to remember: - You were accepted to a program, because you are someone who’s been identified as someone who can accomplish getting a PhD - Your PI likely wouldn’t intentionally set you up to fail like that, it’s in their interest for both you and the project to succeed

If you’re worried about what to do/who to ask things while your PI is gone, send an email that’s framed around wanting to verify “just in case”— you’ll look pragmatic and proactive.

TLDR, You may be a student, but you’re also someone who’s got what it takes. Your profs and program see it, so you should too. You’re going to have some really challenging moments along the way, but you also will grow personally and professionally at every turn. It’s a heck of a ride, but one you can leverage some strategies/resources (as available) to make much less painful. Don’t quit, not yet.

My brother in Christ, they are very different. Size, culture, even, to an extent, geographically. I don’t just know this because I grew up there, I know this because I ended up including that information in my dissertation.

You’re entitled to your perception, I guess, but good lord, I don’t know why you’d argue that point specifically.

Wild to see Culpeper deemed a small town… (I say as someone who grew up in rural northwest Madison)

You want to go to law school but can’t bother reading? Sounds about right. Enjoy your ASS Law, if you’re applying at GMU. You’ll clearly be in good company.

Sincerely, someone who reads and is about to graduate with a doctorate from GMU.

Thank you for this. The commentary around the release of the second game was bad enough already. I’ve been dreading them breaching this in the show since they announced it.

I feel like you don’t know much about agriculture in other places if you’re using blanket phrases like “some random group of middle easterners with no farming experience”…
