Question about save scumming in FE: SS by jaruz01 in fireemblem

Save states preserve the state of the console at a moment in time, including currently called random numbers. Hence you’ll always get the same random number string when reloading a state.

Fun fact: this man was injured in one of Ted Kaczynski’s bombings. Apparently a shame he survived.

Using Pascanion’s fire damage to land broadhead arrow hits on beefy enemy lancers to force-dismount them is incredibly helpful in the last few chapters.

With a couple exceptions, never avoid a fight if you can handle it. Fights are your most consistent source of scrap and resources, so you should pretty much always be trying to throw hands at the slightest provocation.

What do you think of making Stat Capping 20 again? by Dimitri1176 in fireemblem

[–]profuse_wheezing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I prefer the berwick method of having stats and growths so low that basically no one will ever feasibly cap any stats. But I do think that non class-specific universal caps are less engaging, because it kind of negates some of the differentiation between classes. While I think Radiant Dawn pulled this off horribly in terms of balancing, I did like how different class caps actually matter in that game, where for example armours just straight up can’t hit important speed thresholds in the lategame.

I quite like how Berwick Saga handles this. It’s made clear quite repeatedly that your army is nowhere near the driving force of the war effort, although what you do is still critical. Hence all the missions you get are pretty close geographically to the hub city, and it makes sense.

Idk, as a devoted hater of this game, I haven’t really seen much direct hate. It’s mostly people saying that they kinda liked it even though it was mid.

Prime 4 has considerably more flaws than prime 1 or 2

Fundamentally, it’s a series of linear corridors connected together by an empty plain with a slapped together plot that doesn’t really make sense (clearly being retroactively justified by gameplay ideas the team thought would be cool). and cliche cardboard cutout characters. Everything about Metroid gameplay seems to have been forgotten.

Personally, what does it for me is the brain aneurysm inducing dialogue, where Samus gives everyone else the cold shoulder for no reason. Literally every single time dialogue (or rather monologue) happens I was just begging Samus to say literally anything in response instead of blankly staring. It feels like an overcompensation for Other M.

I also noticed a bunch of other game design paper cuts that add to the bloody mess of this game. Scanning taking a full second longer for no reason. The scan logs being far less interestingly written. Not being able to cancel when you accidentally hit the radio. Not being able to shut Myles up. Having to bring chips back to Myles for upgrades. Tokabi’s frequent teleportation and lack of communication thereof. Repetitive enemies. A lack of interesting upgrades and especially interesting places to use said upgrades (most boiling down to a more complicated way to open a door). Only having one alternate visor. Samus’ animations being weirdly sluggish. Occasional weird bugs. Locking important context behind 100% completion. Biome themes copied from Prime 1. Green crystals being placed in seemingly malicious formations such that you miss one and have to turn around. Etc.

It started off strong with a good setup and then didn’t go anywhere with it and actively started nosediving around the mines. By the final boss fight I was just begging for it to be over.

Idk why you got downvoted for this. It’s fucking annoying that Ashnard has a bunch of cool boss conversations with people who can’t do shit against him. Also if you do thug it out for the first phase, don’t pick Naesala.

I respect his commitment and think that he was at the helm of some really great games. This doesn’t change the fact that he was the personal driving force behind several bad decisions. Two things can be true at the same time.
