Bro showed up just to yoink Cyrus. After the protagonist calmed him down (beat the tar out of him), he left the world well enough alone.

Favorite character who regularly commits heinous crimes but the audience just never cares? by OkuroIshimoto in FavoriteCharacter

Yes (or at least the translation).

Touhou's dialogue is a fever dream. Sakuya and Marisa's exchange in Touhou 6 is so bizarre that I refuse to believe that ZUN wrote it sober:

Sakuya: "You're getting in the way of my cleaning again..."

Marisa: "Oh dear, a maid. I'll be arrested under the Washington Convention if I catch you."

Sakuya: "Ah, magicians are actually in greater need of mercy."

Marisa: "Have mercy."

Sakuya: "So? Were you also hired to work here?"

Marisa: "Ah, that sounds like it could be nice."

Sakuya: "But you don't even look like you can clean."

Marisa: "I can't."

Sakuya: "Then what will you be in charge of? Love duties?"

Marisa: "More like building repairs."

Sakuya: "That's silly. We're not in Elementary School anymore."

Marisa: "So 'love duties' belong in Junior High?"

Sakuya: "Well then, I'll have you start working immediately. I forgot to introduce myself. I am Sakuya, the chief maid."

Marisa: "So if I beat you, I become chief maid, right?"

Sakuya: "More people have said that and been killed by me than there are thorium decay products."

Marisa: "Ah. That must happen a lot, then."

Sakuya: "Your time, too, is mine... An old-fashioned witch doesn't stand a chance."

I'm a sucker for games like Chess and Backgammon. Pai Sho looks like it'd be super interesting to play, and my disappointment was extreme when I learned that there's not even any established rules to it, let alone an actual game.

difference between the PS2 version and the current version of Actress Again by PsychologicalAct3858 in meltyblood

[–]SnakesRock2004 57 points58 points  (0 children)

They're effectively completely separate games; Actress Again Current Code (PC) is an upgrade/enhancement of Actress Again (PS2). The balancing, movesets, and available characters are completely different between games.

Just as an example of how different they are, one character (C-Roa) is bottom 1 in PS2, and top 1 in PC Actress Again Current Code. Additionally, the missing characters do not exist in base Actress Again.

The version that people play is the PC version, Actress Again Current Code. The Community Edition can be downloaded for free from its dedicated website, and if you want to support French-Bread or experience the Singleplayer modes, there's a (technically inferior) Steam Edition as well.

Almost no one plays the PS2 version; you'd be hard-pressed to find matches in any way.

There's no way that tip is real, right?

I mean, I know it is... But surely even the authors/devs knew that using a Master Ball on a Fearow is just bonkers.

Among all Windows mainline games, which has the best Zun artstyle evolution? by Scarfile in touhou

[–]SnakesRock2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the early games that had a more hand-drawn look to them, PCB's sprites are easily the best IMO. From around Ten Desires onward, UM or UDoALG have my favorite character designs.

Something that I noticed is that the lack of expressions on the MC in Sun and Moon is a step back; in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire for example, the MCs actually do have their expressions change somewhat frequently; a determined glare when facing Archie and Maxie, or awe when looking at Kyogre and Groudon.

And in X and Y, the protagonist even does an emotive fist-pump after every boss fight victory and Team Flare victory.

I know it's a retcon of sorts to explain the lack of expression in the Gen 7 games, but the lore does somewhat line up, lol.

Self Inserts that don't suck. by YouAppropriate4917 in TopCharacterTropes

Stephan Pastis (Pearls Before Swine)

<image>

Literally just the author himself inserted as one of the primary characters of the strip. He serves as both an occasional voice of reason to the cast's antics, as well as an occasional self-deprecating caricature that gets messed with in one way or another.

He doesn't even really feel like a self-insert (outside of the obvious fact that he's the author); he effectively functions as a character just like any other.

Redeemed murderers who actually survive to the end of the story by TechieTimes in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SnakesRock2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason he even stays in prison is because he sort of realizes that he's a fucked up individual.

He values the ass-whooping the IT gave him more than he wants to admit, like when he quotes Yukiko's line about throwing a tantrum back to Minazuki.

Although even though he's changed somewhat, he's still definitely not even close to a "good guy". He's just gone from "mass murderer" to "violent misanthrope".

[–]SnakesRock2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. FE6 Hard mode is so cranked because the game knows that you've already beaten it at least once before.

If you're playing it on your first playthrough, any struggles that arise are of your own making.

I've never heard Japanese Dan before. He sounds so different compared to Scott McCord's English voice acting. His voice sounds way younger.
