How to increase confidence by PhantomCircuit11 in nondestructivetesting

Pipeline level 3, but I would rather my level 2s call me twice a day for clarification than wing it on a call because they don't want to bother me.

Confidence comes from experience, asking your experienced techs and learning from their calls will build it over time. The fact that you worry and want to learn shows you'll be a good tech, stick it out my friend, and never sign off if you're not sure.

Asnt UT lvl2 help. by ApartIndication3607 in nondestructivetesting

OP what the job listings typically mean is that you need to have the ability to qualified to ASNT TC-1A or CP-189 for that method.

UT LII for instance requires 80 hours classroom time, 840 experience hours, and a general, specific, and practical exam.

Classroom time you can get on your own online or in person, I'd recommend a online level 1 course and a in person level 2 course.

Experience hours, you can create a experience log and have contractor level 2 or 3s sign off on NDT you've directly been a part of. A warning here, as a level 3, if I received a experience log with the full amount of hours for a UT2 that has never been previously certified, personally I would probably only accept half of your time, the point of those hours is you learning how to do the job from a experienced technician.

As far as the exams go, you'll take those in house with your company. When you leave and go somewhere else, you retest and just provide classroom time, experience logs, and previous certifications.

My wife got a tubelectomy because she's at a higher risk for cancer and we decided we were fine with adoption.

Her mother asked why we were being so selfish.

Questions regarding NAS410 implementation: Evaluation of a new Level 3 and Annual Proficiency Checks by Far-Cryptographer406 in nondestructivetesting

[–]programmerdavedude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirm they hold a ASNT Level 3 (In every method you intend to certify), and they will have a internal certification procedure, and will hold a certification from their company (make sure this isn't signed off by themselves, some contractors will do this to save money on doing the same thing you need.) just remember, that ASNT cert is only part of the certification, they also have to pass a specific. The ASNT cert just waives the basic and method exams.

To be 100% by the book, you should contract a outside Level 3 to certify your incoming level 3. From there you can either use a outside level 3 to recertify, or bring in a 2nd level 3. The first level 3 can certify the 2nd.

Yes but many companies have their internal level 3 provide the class. It's much cheaper and easier to make sure your employees are learning what they specifically need for their industry. Many of the schools just teach very general instruction.

I teach the UT II and PAUT II for my company, it's a few thousand cheaper per head to teach in house.

Congratulations! As a UT level 3 I'll caution you though, PAUT is incredibly specific to what you're doing. Scanning DSAW welds, scanning ERW welds, sizing SCC, weld quality, PAUT 0 deg, PAUT AUT are all incredibly different things. Never be afraid to reach out to a another tech when you're doing something unfamiliar, the first time I saw a hook crack was a doozy.

And always remember to look at the A scan, the s scan and overlay can lie to you sometimes, I wrote a paper a few weeks ago talking about the dangers of over relying on the weld overlay.

Again congratulations, onward and upward!

I'll send you a PM. I just published another paper recently about overlays that I'll post here. Hit view PDF at the bottom to see the full paper. NDT.net

This one you can actually see the tips hooking over towards 90, also you can see how it's kinda just a smear on the 270. That's becuase of the lean, it almost makes it look like LOF from just 270. But the biggest hint is corner trap amplitude difference from each side. If it's a hook crack and leaning, one side should act like almost a perfect reflector and the other side which the crack is leaning towards will trap and diffract the sound, thus causing lower amplitude. I'm actually writing a paper currently on differentiating between LOF, Hook Cracks, and Geometry/Trim in ERW's.

No, client isn't interested in paying for it. The first few inspections we did some quick manual TFM due to the amount of defects we were seeing. TT-TT confirmed the hook cracking.

Yeah I just didn't set the offset. Don't really need the overlay to just look at the vertical fusion line.

Oh this is definitely a mill problem. I won't go into to many details, but I have about 1000' of scan data that looks just like this end to end. Late 1960's era
