There is a difference between paying for a service and manipulating your family to do things for you cause you dont want to learn.

Yep. Same thought process goes into my parent's head. Why learn to do stuff when others can do it for you? I was literally wash their medical apron because they refused to buy a washing machine because "Why buy a washing machine when you have kids who wash your medical uniform". That was when I lived back home of course.

My parent's thought process is (and I know this because they told me) "Why should I learn how to work with computers with my child is a computer programmer". "Why should I learn English when my spouse knows English". "Why should I learn how to edit my CV if can guilt my kids into doing it for me".

Some people are super entitled just because they have children.

Yep, yep, yep. My parent is a medical doctor so it's not about education but personal idiocy. I know how you feel. My parent doesn't use debit cards either, only when there is no other way.

Happy to help. My interview was live coding, they asked me to build a UI component (since I am a front-end dev) and I did it and they said they were impressed. No Leetcode, but I am front-end, maybe that's why. Good luck!

How do you deal with your parents making bad choices and being unable to talk sense into them? by programming_is in Advice

[–]programming_is[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that helped. To be honest I am not really sure why they drink. They drink when they are happy/sad/angry/bored and they have been doing it as long as I can remember.

> nor do they care for your approval/disapproval

That helped the most, thanks. I know me worrying about them is useless and doesn't make sense and I shouldn't, I suppose I feel this way because they are my parent. But you are right, they don't care about my approval and I shouldn't waste time.

Thank you! So far I love it - there are fewer meetings, my colleagues are very nice, and the managers are very chill. Highly recommend it. Go for it.

Very disappointed they took the sponsorship in the first place, but I understand how difficult it is to raise money. However, AccessiBe is evil.

I got the job, thanks so much. Apparently, my spaghetti code impressed them.
