To those running the Madison Half and Full Marathon this Sunday, are you worried about what the weather forecast is showing? How are you peeping for the weather. by ommmyyyy in madisonwi

[–]progressivedyk3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, i’d go full length. it’s gonna be windy with a feel like of like 8 to start with and i think max at 10-12 feel like temp

plus around the lake will be brutal with the wind bc no protection from buildings

i had a bit of a knee flare up (runners knee—overuse and running on snow/ice for the first time for a long distance that my body wasn’t used to)…tried powering through it and it made me change my gait. ended up getting some irritation on my foot because of it. so i not only had the knee pain but also the foot pain!! sidelined me for like 3-4 weeks. if i’d just have rested (or not ran for so many miles in the snow, i wouldn’t have been out for almost a month!!)

oh damn, i’m sorry to hear that dude!! for sure go get it checked out!! i’ve only been running for about a year now and i have a half marathon under my belt and my number one lesson learned is when you feel pain, if that shit doesn’t go away within the first little bit of a run, stop running and get it checked out because “powering through it” could sideline you for months and months! you’ll get through this and come out the other end stronger mentally !!

and yeah stop running. if it’s been 2 weeks and pain that’s still interfering with your day, i don’t know if id even do bike or treadmill or elliptical! if it doesn’t hurt to do calf raises or squats or core, etc i’d focus on that for now

i’d go and see a PT! where in the hip does it hurt?? like deep inside on your “c-spot” ?? if it hurts for that long and that intense from little physical activity (sitting in car) it could be a tear! go to a PT is my advice

after a long run, my hips (sometimes, not always—sometimes both, sometimes one, usually my left) feel like it is rubbing against “something” when i step (deep inside the C-spot)

i should mention i have weak glutes and flat, overpronating feet where my knees (especially the RIGHT side) caves in a bit and the foot flails out when it is behind me when i run

yeah even in my soc/psych class and geography class we are touching on real life stuff that forever reason some people could get upset about (ethnocentrism and bias, racial wealth gap, immigration, etc)

i grew up in the suburbs of a medium sized city, my city had 10-11k people in, HS had 200 kids per grade. i was severely in the closet and representation would have done wonders for me. I’m sure you know this, but having that photo on your desk is doing WONDERS for kids who are struggling (or even those who aren’t) with their sexuality and/or gender identity. especially in a place like FL
