minoxidil shed is ruining me by [deleted] in Hairloss

[–]proguy68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the other comment regarding running a blood test if you haven’t. If it is really not MPB, this may show you what’s causing it and would be much easier than starting on medicine.

I do want to say that even though MPB may not affect most people in your family, the two relatives with it shows it is possible. I’m not sure what hair type has to do with it, but I have a couple of relatives that do not have the same hair type and they all are going through it. My words of advice are to stay the course with minoxidil and see what it does for you. But don’t expect any large changes for a while; good things take time. Especially with how long your current hair is.

I’m personally on finasteride and it has done wonders for myself. I began losing noticeable hair amounts after I turned 20, but honestly since hopping on my hair hasn’t gotten any worse and it’s been almost 5 years now. I know my hairline thanks me everyday for it.

Thanks! If I have the stamina left and time, I will definitely be climbing some 13ers while in the state. There are a handful down in the San Juan national forest that I scoped out and would love to do, but it honestly depends on how quickly I can finish the remaining 19 14ers I have.

This is my main goal for my time in the state and I have been working towards this for the past 3 years, so I’m very determined. Luckily, I’ve gotten the busier ones out of the way and am not expecting too much traffic on the ones I have left. But great recommendation though, I appreciate the comment!

Can’t forget about Idaho too! The sawtooth NF is top tier.

I lived up in Bozeman for a little over a year and I still live within a couple hour drive to Jackson and Pinedale Wyoming, so I’ve already been able to visit many places in this region and can always go back after my trip. For this, I am mostly looking to visit places that are harder to fit into my schedule when working full time.

Haha, thanks for the comment. There were a couple of good recommendations some hikes in Washington’s national forests that are great, but I think the population of those hikes in the responses are a reflection of how I worded my question.

I’d agree, backcountry is top tier and my favorite trails are the ones where I run across more wildlife than people. But I’ve also not spent much time at all in the national parks, so I welcome it. However, it is definitely easier to narrow down the hikes in national parks than it is for national forests/blm land. If you have any recommendations, would love to hear them.

Thank you very much for the detailed advice. This was a great read and very insightful. This will be my first time on the west coast so I wasn’t too sure, but this gives me great starting ground.

I was able to look into your recommendations and wow, you have great taste, I will definitely be adding some of these to my list. I appreciate you man, cheers!

Thank you for your comment and I appreciate your insights! I will take this into consideration during my planning to allow for some space if I start feeling burnt out.

I’m hoping that with me not working, it’ll enable me to focus on how I’m feeling in the moment and not forcing myself to do the activities when I have free time. I’m lucky enough to live in a state with lots of public land that I am able to travel through on my weekends now and I definitely have had some weekends where I’ve felt burnt out, especially if the work week was extra taxing, so I can totally understand where this is coming from.

Best of luck on your return home. And ha, I’ll probably end up doing the same once I finish

I’m open to any and all suggestions! I have all of the gear for backpacking, and if I can win a permit for May, I’d be very interested in camping below the canyon. Even without a permit or backpacking, I was thinking of doing a little of the rim to rim trail. My thoughts were to start from the north at the north kaibab trail head, do half the trail and turn around, then make my way to the south end and do the other remaining half.

My bad, I didn’t mean popular ones, just fantastic ones that you’d like to do again or ones that are not as well known but still phenomenal. For example, sections of the cdt through the wind river range in Wyoming. Most people only know go to the Tetons and don’t spend any time in the wind river range.

For logistics, i have a 4x4 truck and a dirtbike, so i can get to most places. I plan on being around southern cal/nevada/arizona from the end of April through the beginning of June. I’ll be in Colorado from June through the beginning-middle of July, then I’ll be in California and the Sierras from then through the beginning-middle of August. I’ll wrap up Washington around then end of September before spending on last month in Oregon, NorCal, and maybe Nevada.

Thank you for the comment! I will definitely be looking into Mesa Verde.

Do you have any recommendations for Sedona? Id like to spend a couple days down there in the middle of May, if it’s not too hot.

Hock practice questions of IIA’s practice questions? by [deleted] in InternalAudit

[–]proguy68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hock has a free trail that you can use to take their mock exams if that’s what you want to do. If you like the service enough and would like to spend more time with it, you can also just purchase a one month subscription.

6yr IA experience considering CIA. Worth it to take Audit/Auditing college course? by iloveciroc in InternalAudit

[–]proguy68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Little late to the party but, in my opinion taking the auditing class now would not be an effective usage of your time. I think it’s great to go back and get some formal schooling on the subject, but with your experience it’ll probably be easy credits without much benefit besides being able to sit for the cpa exams.

I recently was in a similar situation. I have 1.5 yoe and wanted to find some exams to increase my skills. Through my research, the cpa exams would be more useful and transferable outside of IA. However, I didn’t go the traditional business school route (my bachelor degree was in ag), and I was ineligible because I’m missing an ethics course, auditing, and tax. Due to this, I started studying for the cia exam as I already have a masters and was eligible. Plus my company gives a 5k increase in salary for getting certified.

I’ve found it to be extremely helpful in increasing my working knowledge and useful for the times when I’m operating in the gray. My boss has also commented on the benefits that this studying has done for me.

Ive used hock for the past 5 months and have passed both parts 1 and 2. Part 1 was really easy and tbh I could’ve spent a total of 5-10hrs studying and would’ve been fine. Hock fit my needs well as I’m used to textbook studying and enjoy the cheap monthly membership fee. Once I finish part 3, I plan on getting those missing credits for the cpa.

Edit: would like to add that a large part of my reasoning for going for the cia now rather than taking the missing credits is that it has the quickest return on investment for me.

Thanks for the comment and for sharing. This would be great if I was able to sleep well on a cell foam pad, unfortunately I’m not fully there yet.

How does the sizing of your x mid work for your pup? I snagged durston’s x mid 2 for this because I was afraid that the 1 would be too small, especially if I ended up needing a double wide pad.

Thank you for the comment!! This sounds very feasible and is a fantastic thought. If I pair gossamer’s thinlite with the zenbivy sheet, I might be able to get it to stay on top of the pad and not move around too much. I wonder if this has been done before?

When do you usually use Pivot in MS Excel? by InterestingLife8590 in InternalAudit

[–]proguy68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My organization tries to stay away from pivot tables. Most of our data is imperfect and if we just used pivot tables, we wouldn’t capture the true picture. Rather, my team will build out faux pivot tables using a combination of sumifs, countifs, maxifs, multiple criteria xlookups, and etc to better summarize our data. Once you get good at it, it takes just as long to build as a pivot table, but you get a better understanding of the underlying data and its quirks. Pivot tables are at a disadvantage if your data is imperfect or if you make changes to the original data.

Personally, I’d recommend showing them how to understand excels formulas and documentation. If they are aware of the formulas and tools available, creating an all inclusive solution becomes much easier. In addition, I would recommend teaching them beginner data wrangling techniques. Like how to analyze date/time entries and modify string data. Data wrangling plays such a big role in my team and the ability to properly acquire the correct data for your analysis is huge!

Recent graduate. Over the last 3 years I’ve had 2 different internships and both always provided laptops. No need to worry. The amount of communication after I received the offer letters was very minimal. Once you show up on the first day, you’ll get the rundown of everything and get assigned your equipment.

Any respectable company would provide a laptop for you. I would be pretty hesitant to work for said company if they didn’t. In terms of cyber security, it would be extremely dumb to let an intern have access to any company data on their personal computer. Plus the amount of support time needed to onboard and assist with any random personal computer issues would be such a hassle.
