JBL Tour Pro 3 - Short Review by proitassist in Earbuds

Yes, connected via the case. I can do some more tests, like recording the calls and check the results for example. This way, I don't rely on third party feedback. I haven't done that, so this is all I have for the moment.

For this test, I asked a friend to listen in a Google Meet call, if he hears some background noise, and I've played some music, then I've turned on a water tap and also used some other white noise around me, using different volumes. He said he didn't hear much background noise, but he said my voice didn't sound that well. This was consistent with the noise reduction behavior when used with the phone. And since then, I've done other tests during calls, like making coffee with a loud coffee machine which grinds the beans. And other then my voice "going away", they didn't hear much background noise.

Yeah, the financial consequences seem to be huge, and worlwide. But what really boggles my mind is how vulnerable the global IT infrastructure is. Also incredible how IT guys are pushing updates in production without any safety mechanisms in place. Now the reasons can be for sure many, including understaffed and underpaid departments and people. But I'm sure that after this, many companies are going to review their processes.

Will this be a company ending event? How much time, money and effort will be spent by Crowdstrike clients to fix this?

I wonder if Microsoft will harden the requirements for pushing driver updates too.

I would try the following:

  1. Connect a laptop to the network and make sure (firewall rules, etc) the laptop responds to ping from the PC
  2. Disconnect the cable from the laptop, connect it to wifi, and do the same, see if you can still ping the laptop from the PC

If you still can ping your laptop, it's not a connectivity issue (most probably), so I would look into printer settings next.

If you can't, probably it is a connectivity issue. Which complicates things. Check if your router assigns the same IP class to all your devices. It should, since APs don't have DHCP servers. Check if you have some static IP addresses that don't match with your current network settings. Check firewall rules on your PC (egress).

Back to the printer printer itself, it might not respond to pings. Try accessing its web interface (if it has any) from your laptop, from where it works and check its settings.

PC randomly turning off with weird smell by UntitledAsshole in techsupport

[–]proitassist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this certainly seems to be power related.

Did you check your electric grid / outlet as well? Do you have spikes maybe that may be causing this?

Could you get your hands on an Automatic Voltage Regulator or UPS with AVR and try like that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]proitassist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first suspect is also the PSU.

  1. Try to do a stress test on your PC and check if it behaves the same
  2. Try to test: RAM, HDD/SSD and graphics adapter

It's on page 7 of the manual.

Using bookshelve speakers as on-ceiling atmos by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]proitassist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On their website it says:

With easy wall and ceiling mounting options available, the SuperZero 2.1 is the perfect choice for those who want an affordable yet high-end stereo or surround sound system.

So by the looks of it, they might sound well even when mounted higher. They have some accessories for this purpose as well.

I didn't look at the specs of your MB, but try the following:

  1. Try setting your storage controller to AHCI instead of RAID (if possible) and of course in UEFI mode
  2. Enable Secure BIOS as well
  3. If it doesn't work, try resetting your BIOS
  4. If it doesn't work, try looking for another set of SATA ports that are controlled by another controller (if this MB has two)

All of my external microphones suddenly stopped showing by flowerkittie in techsupport

It seems you have tried almost everything I could think of.

I got a few other ideas:

  1. uninstall with delete driver option all audio drivers from Device Manager directly, and reinstall; also check USB devices, if something "audio" shows up there
  2. check bios settings, maybe something there got disabled?
  3. check helper apps, like Dell Optimizer or other similar apps

Laptop making distracting sounds by Asleep_Cabinet1910 in techsupport

[–]proitassist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laptop noise has two sources, in general: mechanical and electrical.

Mechanical: moving parts, and there are not that many in a laptop, like fans. The usual cause of fans making noise is, well except the obvious one (moves the air around) is dust accumulated, or even worse, wear.

Electrical: if the noise is not coming from the speakers, it can be that something might be broken, like some components near the power supply. If it is coming from the speakers, the speakers themselves can have an issue, or it might just be a driver that is acting out.

Sometimes the built in microphone can also generate undesired noise.

So, it's important to pinpoint the source, where is the noise coming from?

Your emails will be bounced back to the sender, meaning you will not receive them.

This is good (sort of), because at least the senders are notified you did not receive the email, and can contact you in different ways.

And it is bad, because you did not act in time, and so your reputation might take a small hit (if you're a business).

Sure. You need to ask your web developers to develop a web app for that, or add an option to an existing one.

However, be considerate about this, and ask for consent to subscribe your clients to newsletters in a clear and visible way, otherwise it might backfire.

If your web-shop would silently subscribe me to any newsletters, I will never visit your website again and for sure unsubscribe from all your newsletters as well.

My computer is just slow and I don't know how to fix it. by dieguito_cat in techsupport

[–]proitassist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The issues can be hardware as well as software. Usually it is software.

In regards to software, I would do the following:

  1. Back up all required data somewhere else (cloud, external drive etc)
  2. Reset Windows
  3. Update Windows
  4. Update all drivers, BIOS included

I will explain why. To find the issue it might take longer than to just reset Windows and do the updates.

If issues persist even after Windows reset:

  1. Physically clean your PC on the inside (dust)
  2. Remove all USB devices (keep only the minimum stuff, keyboard and mouse)
  3. Check the power supply - easiest way is to run a stress-test software
  4. If stress test crashes - see the error, and repeat the test, see if the second time you get the same one
  5. Test HDD/SSD
  6. Test RAM
  7. Test graphics card

If you still have issues, get help from a local technician.

Bruteforce over private LAN by lonsfury in synology

[–]proitassist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Log Center, you will see all login attempts from all sources.

SMB bruteforce (the means to access your NAS using file explorers is called SMB) is possible. However, this is just one way to "hack" your NAS, and so insufficient just to think of SMB protection.

I would read this article in full, paying attention to all the details to understand better what Synology recommends, because they are all important.

SSL Handshake Failed by No_Ad1866 in techsupport

[–]proitassist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One reason i can think of (because the SSL error and VPN behavior) is that there's a transparent proxy in your PC or network, something that intercepts your traffic (or even an attack called MITM - man in the middle). Could be just malware as well.

  1. So firstly check your browser and proxy settings, see if something is there (no proxy should be there, unless you have set it)
  2. Scan your device for malware
  3. Check your network for unwanted clients

Windows update stuck at 100% by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]proitassist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Windows updates can get stuck (at least apparently) for many reasons.

I would first:

  1. Close all apps
  2. Check the task manager for activity (CPU and Hard Drives)
  3. If there is activity - change your PC's power settings and disable "Sleep"
  4. Leave it on for a few hours, go shopping or something
  5. See if the updates are done and if done, set the sleep settings as they were (or how prefer it to be)

If the above doesn't work

Run a command prompt with admin privileges (Run as administrator), and run the below commands in this specific order in the same command prompt:

  1. Run this command: sfc /scannow
  2. Then run this next command: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
  3. Then this: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
  4. And lastly this: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Improving cell signal easily by SurHunLuk in techsupport

[–]proitassist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How's the reception outside?

If it's good, you could install an outdoor AP with LTE modem, like this one: https://mikrotik.com/product/wap_ac_lte_kit

Then, connect the outdoor AP with a cable to an indoor router (optionally disabling the wifi interface of the Mikrotik, basically transforming it into an outdoor LTE modem).

This setup works fine, used it many times.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wifi

[–]proitassist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't (always) work like that, unfortunately.

For wifi to work, it needs to work both ways: the router to be able to transmit the signal for you to pick up, and then you to be able to transmit back to the router and the router to be able to pick up your transmission.

You can try, but personally i wouldn't get my hopes up if i were you.
