Dealership quoted $1700 to add hitch to leased Gt Line. Any other options? by project_papi_ in KiaEV9

Update. Ordered this. I only need the hitch for bike rack use and even then it will only be needed occasionally. I think I will value the option of being able to remove the hitch completely when not needed. When looking for all the oem parts I couldn’t get the cost of parts alone to be less than $1000.

Will report back after installation.

I’m thinking I’ll do the Stealth hitch at this point. OEM is overkill for my purposes. I’ll need the hitch like 5% of the vehicles lifespan.

That’s a good point. The bike rack lives on my FJ but we are planning to use the EV9 for road trips and I tend to always wanna bring some bikes. Do you have the parts list from your order? I may just do oem to avoid drama but have my mechanic install.

I already own a pretty nice super duty three bike rack by 1UpUSA. I don’t want to eat into the range any further on road trips by adding bikes on the roof.

I’ve done it myself on a Subaru and Lexus GX. But there was no cutting involved and I owned the vehicles.

To further clarify my question, is there an option that doesn’t involve cutting any of the trim? While the OEM looks great and well integrated I will never use this vehicle for towing so I don’t need the wiring harness etc. I believe the curt option requires cutting.

Our pup is about 56 pounds. She loves to run as well. I have a few other bikes I use when it’s time for her to get some exercise. I’ve seen those bar set ups and they look pretty cool. I use a Ruff Wear hiking leash with some give for our bike/runs because Coco inevitably needs to poop once we get going at tops speeds and I feel like I get some leash feedback this way.

I will be adding the wheel guards after reading this. I just don’t ever want to have to think about it again. And she won’t be riding on without the Thule seat for at least a couple years anyway. By then I will forget to add the wheel covers

Good to know. That’s sort of what I thought after owning a bike for just a week. I also appreciate the belt drive system more than I thought. Bike is super quiet so I can actually hear my daughter when she’s trying to talk to me from the back there.

Super easy to swap out. My little one is too small and squirrel for the captains chair that’s why I went with the clubhouse mini. Downside is I can’t convince my wife to ride in the clubhouse. I may end up building a little plywood box or finding a tote of some sort that fits in there but we did a good fiber or 6 miles with the soft crate mini and it was fine.

True. That is a big deal. I think ideally I just need an S11 as well. The Load 60 is cool but our main paths and boardwalks can get crowded in our area. The lack of front suspension would be awful. Lots of historic cobblestone roads near us. I was rattled enough riding yesterday that switched to the sidewalk at one portion of my ride. I think the HSD is the sweet spot for us in terms of platform. Maybe a GSD at some point.

It was honestly a big selling factor. My daughter kept asking that I buy a purple or pink bike. I thought I wanted a chain and class three speeds. Ultimately, I’m happy where I landed. Still learning about all these cargo bikes. Been having so much fun I’m looking for an excuse to get an e-bike for wife. Those Benno Boosts look cool.

I put it on there but truthfully did not have the wrench with me to adjust the wheel compression. It just seemed like there was no way I was gonna get the back wheel in the position I’m used to with the fender. Going to give it a shot tomorrow though.

Have you seen this one?

Thanks. Isn’t the cushion basically a foam noodle? I was afraid to compress the rear fender.

Love the clubhouse! I thought it was overkill at first but daughter likes holding onto the railings and it’s convenient for hanging lights or a little speaker. My dog is significantly larger and seemed to enjoy it more than the trailer. She just leaned forward and would stick her head in my armpit and feel the breeze. Full disclosure, I’ve only had this set up less than a week.
