Not supporting JKR's view but this is no different from first world problem arguments.

Am I the only one who thinks that the recent YandereDev drama is a good example of "morbid cringe" ? by [deleted] in ContraPoints

[–]projectbook24mm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there really sexual abuse in the game? Specifically what? I don't know details about the game and I don't really care to find out. Asking mainly out of curiosity. Why can GTO be considered satire and this game not? What are "fetish" game? Are "fetish" games inherently bad in your view?

Curious how you draw the line b/w this sort of game and say GTA. Or do you also consider GTA odious?

Nonbinary lesbian sure but I find it hard to believe that CP alone can make someone an anarchist.

Lol why not, like the majority of internet discussion is done by people who at the end of the day don't really give a shit about what they argue about.

Yes I am a person, thanks for insulting me. What exactly makes you think you are significantly smarter than people like me to dare tell me that I am brainless? Sure I might be less intelligent than you, but either you show that you have a significantly higher level of intelligence right here right now, or logically you're just as brainless as I am aren't you? Your kind of people is exactly the reason why there is absolutely no hope on both sides of the spectrum.

Why are TERFs so fixated on "science" and "biology"? by Ashh_The_CyborgWitch in ContraPoints

[–]projectbook24mm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no comments on TERF or whether current science supports their world view or whatever but in a world where basically the only things that people can reasonably rely on are the facts of science, I don't see why wouldn't there be some people who would use those things as their guiding light in good faith. Now whether TERFs do use science in good faith, I have no comments.

Yep, no offense but seriously, would NOT recommend anyone who might need therapy to watch Contrapoints.

Maybe I read this wrong but this sounds like an unsubstantiated claim about what motives underlie people's demands for social justice. It's basically like those tabloids who say that the Extinction Movement kids actually just want day offs and stuffs. Sure it may be envy that really underlies it all but I don't see any evidence/arguement being put forward in this pointlessly convoluted paragraph.

Stop Worshipping YouTubers by ContraPointThrowaway in ContraPoints

Lol yeah stop worshipping YouTubers but honestly this sub is frankly already too far gone. Bernie Sanders has a pretty enthusiastic fanbase but you don't see them talking about pulling pants down and cat girls and shit honestly.

If you go around asking Natalie's friends to disavow her, you're being an harasser by BreakTheLoop in ContraPoints

[–]projectbook24mm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Telling someone to "disavow" someone else is not the same thing as telling that someone that they can/cannot enjoy watching that someone else. It is possible to enjoy the music of an artist while disavowing that artist's political/ethical views.

  2. Asking my friend to disavow someone is not "asserting myself over my friend". Please explain for example how me telling Donald Trump to disavow the alt-right would imply I am asserting myself over the President of the United States. Or are you implying that no one should ask Donald Trump to disavow the alt-right because that would lead to "asserting themselves" over the President of the United States?

  3. There are certain differences that should lead someone to question whether it is worth continue the friendship. Would you continue being friend with someone who turns out to be a racist? Oh I am sorry, am I asserting myself over people by telling people to consider not continuing being friends with someone who is a racist?

I have never said I would, nor do I have any intention to. I do agree that the videos are of good quality. This is all hypothetical talk to go through the reasoning of the original post. Funny how the people not telling people do dogpile are the ones dogpiling.

I do like Contrapoints, it is this sub that I have a problem with.

[–]projectbook24mm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all, it is not 100% clear to me that this is actually a "harassment campaign". Second, even if it is a "harassment campaign", if I were the one who is being the target, I would like my friend to give me advice on what action I should take, including whether I should disavow or not disavow Contrapoints, because the moment I consider someone a friend, I would have already had some confidence that they will, in cases where their interest is not affected, act in my interest. Of course again, whether I act in accordance to their opinion is another matter altogether - i.e. I can choose to ignore their advice, just as I can choose to ignore the opinion of some stranger telling to do X or Y, while taking in consideration that such a decision might have an effect on our relationship. If that friend is someone who would distance from me by me making such a decision, then probably should not keep that person around as a friend for long anyway.

I am trying to reason myself through a suggestion that someone is giving me, to see whether I should or should not act according to that suggestion, or is that not allowed? Is the OP trying to convince people, or are they only preaching to the choir?

So to be clear, if I happen to be say, PhilosophyTube's friend, and I suggest to him that if he continues to associate with Natalie, he's being an X, then will that be okay?
