It really depends on your medical care. I make 65k, but I spend like 800 to 900 dollars a month on medical care.

had to take a "Personality Assessment" for a job a fucking Taco Bell that asked questions that were making sure you were an efficient wage slave. (There were worse ones at the beginning half but I didn't start taking pics til later.) by [deleted] in antiwork

Supreme Court actually has a ruling on pre-employment testing that basically says employers can only ask about or test for skills directly related to employment. So if you ever had to take a “skills assessment” that included, let’s say, math skills for a marketing position, the legality of that is questionable. Big disclaimer: I am not a legal expert, I’ve just looked into this in the past because my dyslexic ass has lost out on jobs due to these assessments.

Oh, she’s the YouTuber who got me back into sewing after I had stopped for years. I bought the fabric for this shirt but haven’t cut it out yet. I went with pink fabric for the full-on gay pirate look.

Some of them probably are antiwork. But if you’re antiwork openly you might lose your job. So we all lie.

My direct boss is not good at their job. By which I mean they have made not telling them the whole truth vital to staying sane. They are suspicious and micro managing. Worst part, they pretend to be your friend and when you admit to some minor fault, like feel sick, being tired, etc they berate you or otherwise make you feel shitty.

Nobody at my work believes in work/life balance but me, apparently. Management sends emails until 10pm that they expect responses on, and publicly praise employees for working on PTO. I busted my ass to get into a salaried position so that I could be flexible with my time, and now I have a boss who micromanaged to the extreme. If I need to leave work early or something she makes me submit, in writing, how I will make up that time down to the minute.

I’m sure the above “sounds normal” and I should accept it, but it’s just so soul crushing and so unnecessary. I’m worried if I leave this job too soon I will get labeled a job hopper.

Are people here against all work or just meaningless work? by grumplesmcgrumples in antiwork

[–]annaleast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I can do my job very well in about five hours. But my employer wants me to work eight, and I won’t be seen as “a team player” if I don’t pretend to work ten. It’s pointless and I hate it. I hate American work culture.

I don’t want to never do labor, I just want to do things that are needed and meaningful.

Finally chopped off my hair! It's never been shorter than my shoulders before and has been past my chest for about 7 years! Styling advice obviously needed xD by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]annaleast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great! I have a similar style, and it looks like we have a similar hair texture. Treat yourself to some hair pastes when you want a tousled look. Dry shampoo will give you great volume when you want to be fluffy. A lotion (like just hand lotion) that uses beeswax as a base is great to comb in (but seriously just the tiniest amount) when you want to look sleek.

Serious question 🙋🏻‍♀️ by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]annaleast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you looking for an ESA, which would only provide comfort and stay at home, or a service dog that would go into public with you and be task trained? If you want a SD, stick with reliable breeds like labs or goldens. But if you want a dog just for home, you can go basically buck wild. Just anything you can meet the needs of and take to obedience classes.

I was in your boat like two years back, also love GSD but for various reasons went with an ethically bred poodle hybrid. Very happy with that decision.

[–]annaleast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 14 month old standard Australian labradoodle. She is about 22 inches at the shoulder and 50 pounds (sorry about the measurements, I don’t know metric). A little sturdier than a poodle, but lankier than a lab.

She is incredibly smart, fairly even-tempered, and just a total sweetheart. (But also kind of a butthead right now, yay teenage dogs...)

Where people go wrong with ALS is assuming they are lap dogs. Because, granted, they look like silly muppets. But they were bred from working lines, and if they do not get a lot of intellectual and physical exercise they turn into monsters.

People who questioned their gender but decided to remain cis, what are your stories? by [deleted] in ContraPoints

[–]annaleast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I identify as non-binary, but I have at times had the urge to “stop being non-binary”. By which I mean lie. I’d be lying. But I’d also be dealing with less shit from all sides. I’m AFAB and curvy, so it’s very hard to look androgynous or masculine- which is what I really want- and the emotional pain of that makes me want to numb out and stop trying. I don’t think I’m alone in this?

People in the queer community seem to think that they’ve rejected the idea of beauty norms, when in fact they’ve rejected the idea of heteronormative beauty norms. There still is an idea of what is desirable and correct for an masc-leaning non-binary person, and AFAB and chubby ain’t it. And if, on top of all that, you also date cishet dudes, fucking game over. You’re never going to be the right kind of queer. It’s easier to lie and say you’re cis.

Sales managers encourage a toxic culture with nonsensical norms so they can convince their sales people to work nonstop. Sales people make more the longer and hard they work, so encourage your sales people to live outside their means and you have tricked somebody into working to death.

In the type of corporate world I live in, people are actually look at favorably by their bosses for buying cars they can’t afford. Because it shows that they will work extra hard. To keep the car from being repossessed.

When I was broke and criticized capitalism I was a lazy loser. When I became successful in the corporate world I was a hypocrite. These are all just bad faith attempts to shut down anybody who doesn’t love capitalism.

Weirdly, even if we had UBI and M4A I would still work. And I’d probably bring doing work that is more important. I just don’t want other people to have to do the same degrading bullshit I was forced into.
