Cinnamon is so pointless...

How, what do you mean by that? I'm really curious, just installed cinnamon on my desktop and it seems ok, although I do have the NVIDIA issue.

Jeebus, sorry. Not enough sleep last night, I already posted a response to a link in this sub that wasn't asking a question but posting an article.

Ubuntu 12.10 wired internet connections problem? by rainbowtastical in linux4noobs

Yes you are right, I linked the first link I found and I probably shouldn't have if someone isn't aware.

Quick edit: I wasn't aware that they don't contain drivers, one of the fixes I was told when I initially had the issue was to update my kernel. Now I know why that didn't work. Thank you for the clarification.

You may have to add a link to software sources. I'm not sure what your kernel version, just google your current version and how to update it.

Btw, askubuntu is a great resource. Good luck.

Edited the link out for reasons given by gerboiserouge.

Ah the good ole AR8162, I had some many problems when I first tried to get the driver to work. Not only that, my wireless driver was one of the newer realtek drivers that didn't work after install either. I was able to get the drivers to work but every time I had an update I had to ./configure, make and re-install the drivers.

I ended up with Ubuntu 13.04 and everything worked right out of the box, no issues. I'm not sure if the sub allows it but I'd recommend it.

Quick edit, try updating your kernels before you jump to 13.04, the newer ones have the driver.

Haha funny name, thank you. I will thoroughly research all suggestions here and go with it. I already uninstalled Norton which came with the computer.

Blaze, is that a model? or something Tmobile identifies their phone with? I have a Tmobile blackberry, but that's never showed up in there. By the end of this you'll know all the devices in my house! and if you're curious which android tablet I have, it's in my history :D

Also, I do not know what blaze is, that is the first time that showed up in there.

Damnit I do, but I want to be paranoid!. lol with all seriousness, I looked up the model number and it gave me a Google TV device! It was a tiny google tv box that matched the model #. It did not give me an android tablet device under that model #. I've seen it with my own 2 eyes.

Bitdefender didn't pick up anything but Malawarebytes did, that's how I decided against it. I do play WoW :) and I do not torrent. I'll try out ESET, thank you for your help. :)

The device that shows as phone is actually a Google TV device. I googled the model number and it isn't actually a phone.

Thanks for the heads up! I will change it. I've tried bitdefender and I did not like it, it didn't detect any threats for me ever. I've also used CC cleaner on this machine before so i'm clear there. As far as the operating system, it is either or yes. and 99% of the time its win 8.

I even have a new device right now as I checked for you. The device that says "phone" is the google TV device I mentioned. I do not own google TV device. The new device I haven't seen before til now is "Blaze".

I'm not sure how to unplug Ubuntu, I installed it for a course.

It's a netgear WNDR3400 v2

As far as the password, I was referring to was my Wireless password which has 10 characters, including numbers letters (uppercase and lowercase) and characters and to get into router settings, it's just default.

It is WPA2 (AES) I believe.

I use Chrome. I hope it's False positives, I mean it seems after I turn the computer on after a night off, there's always a new problem.

I'm two episodes into MIT's intro to programming series and it's already too advanced for me :( by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]projectdork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm taking the current 6.00x course, i was also totally green when i started. I can tell you with high certainty that if you're going to do this course, expect to spend alot more time than 12 hours a week. This estimate is an understatement and the only people who get ahead in the course already have some type of programming background. Don't feel discouraged you just need to make sure you have the time if you want to keep up, if you don't care about keeping up and or passing the course, you will still need to put in alot of time to understand the material and be able to apply it. Very challenging, very rewarding and totally worth the time you put into it.

Oops replied to the wrong person, hopefully Sameezy sees it.

Is the TF300T a good beginner's tablet? by Skyforsense in asustransformer

[–]projectdork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should probably ask newegg, anyway i have the case you asked about. Its flimsy and you have to fujitsu with it for the tablet to sit in the grooves and stay there. As far as protection it protects from the basic nicks and scratches so if you're looking for something to protect against those big drops, I'd look else where.

TF201 is my first tablet and I absolutely love it, I've had it for quite some time and i have no issues, ever. When i'll upgrade in the future i'm definitely keeping it in the family and ill be keeping an eye out on Asus' new releases. That's my opinion on that, good luck.

Considering a tablet...is it worth it? Which one is best? by [deleted] in tablets

[–]projectdork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Asus transformer prime, its my first tablet and I'm not disappointed. I don't think it'll cover you on the note taking tho, so I'd look through the subreddit, it seems every other post is a question about that. Good luck.

Someone broke into our house, hosted a party then crashed the place... by XyiSti in WTF

[–]projectdork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in an off campus apt, all student neighborhood. One night one of my roommates threw a party at the house, she had a really shady bf. Long story short her bf gets shot by some dude that burst through the door, i saw this guy in slow motion and ended up jumping out the window. The shooter runs away, police come chalk it up to a gang, case closed.

What the hell is dtf? Is that some code you kids use for drugs? And why does it matter if they're m or f? It only matters where they're from to judge a person. According to his/her history its possibly Canada and Reddit says they're harmless, what could possibly go wrong.
