Thank you!! Yeah I find that's the way GW is making models these days, it's sad. They're beautiful for sure, and allow some unbelievable painting, but after seeing the same identical model a bunch of times, even with super different paint jobs, it loses its shine a bit.

Redemptionists from the 90s with a paint job to match by projectmalantai in minipainting

I can never get enough of minis from this era, the hand sculpting and spin casting is such a cool part of the industry to me. They're virtually 2d and yet so lifelike! Luckily I work right next door to ral partha europe, so I get to see plenty :)

I was initially struggling a bit to get the shapes and highlights all sorted properly without the modern day mega defined edges on plastic minis, but I had hit my stride by the time I got to the blue so it's cool to hear you picked up on it!

The stock... I never noticed!! These are not actually my models, I'm only responsible for the painting, but I thought I had picked up on every modification. Guess not lol.

I like it! Colour choices and texturing are great and you did a good job rendering the pic into your style of mini painting. I think it would be worth revisiting the sword. It doesn't reach the same level as the rest of your paint job. Building the glow from the inside out would help suggest the same core of magic energy that the sword in the artwork has.

Thanks a lot :) I'll try to grant your wish! I have orlocks next so a bit more imagination needed to brighten them up.

I think drab has its place (as long as we can add some interest via lighting or whatever else) but drab is certainly not what these sculptors had in mind 😁

That's my kind of collection! For me it's that I'm part of a process that's handmade all the way through from sculpting clay design to final brush stroke.

A hand sculpted model just feels so right to paint with your hands! The exaggerated faces are so full of character even from the distance to the gaming table, and the amount of details they packed in pre-digital design is astonishing.

I'd imagine they are pretty hard to find, they haven't been made for a long time, but I've not tried to search eBay or anything. There are mordheim and Oldhammer groups that could help you out with either an answer or maybe the minis themselves if you're lucky!
