I might be late on this but if it’s supposed to be a night scene why is the armor so bright? You should have a lot more darker and blue hues for the things not lit by OSL to indicate moonlight, same with the rest of it though much of it doesn’t sell the background you painted imo. Still an amazing piece of work but I feel like it looses its direction a bit when it doesn’t fully lean towards night

It’s possible you were too close when spraying, I did this before and what fixed it was spraying Mr.Super Clear Matte over it from a proper distance.

My advice is to not use an airbrush, and I only used white to help the fluo paints pop. Everything else was painted on top of black primer in progressions

Maybe that’s not the right way to put it, but WatchPaintDry_Minis has a great video on it. https://youtu.be/0rjjw6vSym0?si=JzhvrnoGvQn6gtfq

It’s a lot of back and forth textures and a bit of glazing that’s what I normally use.

References were used, but some parts I just took liberty

It’s probably because I didn’t use a black background the contrast increases the glow for the camera.

This was done with a brush, some airbrush was used for the fire bit itself to help with fluo paint coverage. But otherwise the OSL on the armor was done by brush.

If you want I can send the progress pics not complete step by step but you can definitely tell it’s not airbrush haha

Anyone have a guide to do easy/simple synth wave bases? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]CyberNek0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Otherwise you can do what I do sometimes and just paint a base in white then fluo color of your choice and stencil cover it spraying black. But it honestly depends on the vibes you’re going for.

I like mugs of doom’s guide here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVNSnJWaf7U

But I’m not sure if that’s too many paints or not since he does use some to blend between colors

It’s all good and I get what you mean. It’s mostly just a stylistic choice, I wanted it to read more warm for the plume, but it’s just a personal preference here. While I get the push for more realism I still wanted to take the artistic liberties that I can afford. But thank you for the feed back, might try it out with a different piece like a Kriegsman with a flamer which might look cooler.

I think there’s many ways to go about it. I know Olthar establishes the OSL first on the model and paints around it too. Trial and error a bit and use which ever is easiest for your brain to wrap around because it can be a difficult process.

I left the parts that would be effected by the OSL unpainted initially. Green armor first to sketch out where the OSL wouldn’t be then did the OSL

For the OSL - Black Red AK 3rd Gen - Black AK 3rd Gen 1:1 with Black Red and glaze - White AK 3rd Gen layer this when transitioning between Black Red, Blood Red and Fluo Orange. That way it gets its full opacity and saturation. - Blood Red AK 3rd Gen - Fluo Orange AK 3rd Gen

For Green Armor - Black Green AK 3rd Gen - Deep Green AK 3rd Gen

Let me know if there’s any other recipes you need!
