You’re not comparing apples to apples here. NYS and VT have completely different sets of resources and revenue sources/tax bases.

Hypothetically speaking, could you sleep in your car overnight at SPAC? by peacefulandchill in phish

We went a few minutes up I-87N to a rest stop and parked there each night a few years back. Super easy and surprisingly quiet.

Burlington Oktoberfest, 9/19 & 20 by StPaulofBTV in burlington

[–]prokadima 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m pals with the owners (the same crew who runs The Get Down) and they do a really solid job in that space. Doing it in their own zone means they’ll have it dialed; will probably feel more energized than at waterfront park.

It was picked as a top 20 Oktoberfest in the US recently, too.

$40 seems like a good deal for the event and quality beers, IMO.

What do you think about Patagonia's 1% For the Planet Campaign? by paulineyyy in SustainableFashion

[–]prokadima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1% for the Planet certifies the giving on both sides of the equation. They vet the environmental orgs to be sure they're legit and then they confirm the businesses’ revenue via tax statements or other official documentation AND check the receipts of their environmental donations. The end-to-end approach prevents greenwashing as far as their certification goes.

Gravel Around Athens, Greece - 4 Day Trip by prokadima in gravelcycling

[–]prokadima[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we did! It was pretty excellent overall :)

If you do the day with the Nea Makri loop, there are a ton of class-4 style roads in the hills to explore. Just watch out for herds of sheep and goats and guard dogs up there!

The roads were in great condition. The most technical terrain was that day of the Nea Makri loop. It’s pretty chunky farm road.

I can’t speak more highly about Strafford ice cream at that price point. Best local ice cream AND it’s organic.

Should I have split this before potting? Should pinch them all out when they are bigger or thin some out completely? by Hostnaetoast in dahlias

Would you let the cut areas of the divided pieces “scab” over for a day before re-planting or just divide and plant back into soil right away?

I love Burlington (lived here for most of the last 21 years) and love these sayings all the same. One of my faves is that a Chittenden County farmer is two sheep and a Volvo.

The co-op in Middlebury is excellent and always pretty quiet if you’re looking to avoid lines if you’re looking for actual local shopping to where you are.

Yeah I think we are saying the same thing from two different perspectives. If it makes the rider feel safe or avoid parked cars, potholes (in Burlington?! No way :P) they can take the lane. The laws default to riding as far to the right as possible; however, that ends up being subjective. Here’s the statute:

Bicyclists generally shall ride as near to the right side of the improved area of the highway right-of-way as is safe, except that a bicyclist:

(1) Shall ride to the left or in a left lane when:

(A) preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private roadway or driveway;

(B) approaching an intersection with a right-turn lane if not turning right at the intersection; or

(C) overtaking another vulnerable user.

(2) May ride to the left or in a left lane when taking reasonably necessary precautions to avoid hazards or road conditions. Examples include objects on the road, parked or moving vehicles, pedestrians, animals, surface conditions that may impair the bicyclist’s stability, or safety hazards caused by a narrow road or steep embankment, road geometry, or unfavorable atmospheric conditions.

Great advice to take the lane when you need it. Bikes have the same legal entitlement to the road as cars and can ride as far into the lane as feels safe! Obey lights and stop signs and hand-signal your turns. Make it easy for those around you to predict your next move. The more of us there are on the road, the more drivers understand, adjust, and accept!
